What the Finale Numbers Actually Say

The final episode pulled a nationwide average of 6.2 percent according to Nielsen Korea. The Seoul metropolitan area rating came in even higher at 6.5 percent, with the nationwide peak touching 7.2 percent and the Seoul peak hitting 7.7 percent. About 1.416 million viewers tuned in across South Korea for the last episode.

The finale was the most-watched cable program of any kind on Tuesday, October 13. It also took first place in its time slot across all channels, including public broadcast networks, among the key demographic of viewers aged 20 to 49.

Viewership built steadily across the show’s run. The premiere on September 14 opened at 3.9 percent. Episode 2 jumped to 5.2 percent. The back-to-back episodes on October 5 saw a low of 3.1 percent for Episode 7 followed by a then-personal-best of 5.9 percent for Episode 8. The second-to-last episode on October 12 brought in 5.1 percent, setting the stage for the finale spike.

The Story Behind the Numbers

The Ordinary Jackpot follows Gong Eun-tae (Lee Jun Hyuk), a sales team leader at Hongsung International who wins 1.3 billion won (about $950,000) in the lottery. Instead of quitting, he returns to work the next day with a fresh perspective, using the money as financial backup rather than an escape route.

The drama is based on the web novel of the same name by Seo In-ha, which was serialized between 2019 and 2020. A webtoon drawn by Geuk-jo Yoo has been running on Naver Webtoon since 2024.

Lee Jun Hyuk carried the show in what he described as his first true leading role after nearly 20 years in the industry. He played Gong Eun-tae, a character he called the most like a real person among all the roles he has done.

“I’ve been working for nearly 20 years and have done around 50 projects,” Lee said during a press event. “I’ve always been someone who works.”

Seo Hyun Woo played Yang Joon Ho, the senior assistant manager who starts as a rival to Eun-tae before becoming a colleague. Oh Dae Hwan portrayed Jung Sun Hyuk, a team leader from a competing sales team whose choices push the story’s central conflict. Hong Jin Ki appeared as Park Ki Tae and Ha Yul Ri played Lee Ji Hye, rounding out the Sales Team 5 group.

Director and writer Yoon Young-bin, who also directed the 2021 film Tomb of the River, said the drama was built to stay grounded despite its lottery hook.

“Although the title is ‘The Ordinary Jackpot,’ it’s not really a story about winning the lottery,” Yoon said. “It’s a story about people and how they live.”

How the Finale Wrapped Things Up

The last two episodes, Episodes 9 and 10, were released together on TVING on October 8 at 6 p.m. KST, ahead of the tvN broadcast. The finale resolved the corporate battle between Hongsung International and CGM, a rival company that had been poaching employees and brands. Eun-tae used a high-stakes negotiation with Belmore department store to turn the tables, exposing CGM’s plans and forcing the rival to back down.

The ending showed Eun-tae getting promoted to deputy general manager of sales planning, while Jun-ho moved up to manager. Jung Sun Hyuk, who had left Hongsung for CGM, found a new path at Gwangdong after CGM acquired the company. The two former colleagues shared a quiet rooftop conversation, with Sun Hyuk suggesting they grab a drink sometime.

An epilogue scene mirrored the very first episode. Eun-tae stood at the same convenience store, the card machine not working again, offering cash for his drink. The clerk asked how he wanted the change handled. The screen cut there, leaving his answer open.

Where the Show Found Its Global Audience

Outside South Korea, The Ordinary Jackpot streamed on Rakuten Viki across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Oceania, and India. Disney+ Japan carried it through the TVING Collection, where it ranked No. 1 in the TV series category and No. 2 in the overall category. HBO Max brought it to 18 countries and regions across Asia Pacific, and Prime Video carried it in India.

On TVING itself, the drama held the No. 1 spot in weekend subscription contributions for four consecutive weeks through its fifth week of release. It also climbed to the top of weekly subscription contributions during its run.

What the Cast Said at the End

Lee Jun Hyuk spoke warmly about sharing the screen with his co-stars. He praised Seo Hyun Woo specifically, saying the two found a rhythm together that felt like jazz. He also mentioned wanting the whole cast to feel like protagonists, not just himself.

Seo Hyun Woo had previewed the finale’s tension before it aired. He said a crisis was coming for the whole company, not just Sales Team 5, and asked viewers to watch how the characters made their choices.

Oh Dae Hwan shared that he was drawn to the project because of the script’s realistic take on office life. In a separate interview, he said the drama gave him a character with a different kind of ambition than the roles he usually plays.

A Quiet Record for tvN’s Monday-Tuesday Slot

The finale’s 6.2 percent rating marked the highest number the show achieved in its entire run. The previous best was 5.9 percent from Episode 8, which aired on October 5. The show’s lowest point was Episode 7’s 3.1 percent, also on October 5, when both episodes aired back-to-back due to a Tuesday soccer match.

The drama’s 10-episode run stayed steady in the Monday-Tuesday primetime slot on tvN, even with the TVING pre-releases making the episodes available days earlier. The finale’s ranking as the top cable show on a Tuesday night, beating everything else on cable, was the final marker of its performance.

The Ordinary Jackpot is available to stream in full on TVING and Rakuten Viki, with regional availability on Disney+ Japan, HBO Max, and Prime Video India.
