What Happened in Episode 6
Episode 6, titled “結びつき” (Connections / Bonds), aired on August 6, 2026. The episode picked up after Oniyasha’s embarrassing loss to Zojiro in the lion-dance competition.
Oniyasha took the defeat hard. He was so ashamed that he threw himself into a river in despair. The shogun, Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, was also upset because his chosen performer had failed so publicly. The Kanze troupe’s reputation hung in the balance.
A rematch against Zojiro was set, but Oniyasha’s confidence was shattered. He reached a point where he no longer wanted to dance. During this low moment, Oniyasha unexpectedly reunited with Kogane, a village boy from earlier episodes.
Kogane had his own history with Zojiro. He had been kicked out of the Shinza troupe before joining the old monk Toku. Kogane fled to a village because he failed as a dancer. But there was a key difference between him and Oniyasha. Oniyasha was not simply a dancer. He carried an overwhelming love for the stories of the earth and the people who lived on it. Dance was the only way he could express those stories.
A mysterious white-haired man kept trying to teach Oniyasha this lesson. As Oniyasha gathered stories from the people he met, he slowly began to understand. The episode ended with a doomed old monk, showing that stories come at a cost because life itself comes at a cost.
The increasing tensions between the Northern and Southern shogunate meant Oniyasha could not visit his friend as Yoshimitsu’s dancer. He seriously considered giving up dance and fleeing to an anonymous life like Kogane’s. But the episode made it clear that Oniyasha was destined to return to the stage.
