Episode 3 of The World’s Strongest Rearguard will air on Sunday, July 19, 2026. The show follows a weekly broadcast schedule, with new episodes releasing every Sunday. The series airs at 22:00 JST (Japan Standard Time) on Tokyo MX.
For international viewers, Crunchyroll streams the series as part of its summer 2026 simulcast lineup. The streaming platform offers the anime with subtitles in multiple languages including English, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Arabic, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
The series has a total of 12 episodes planned for its first season. Each episode runs approximately 24 minutes.
What Happened So Far: Episodes 1 and 2 Recap
The story begins when Arihito Atobe, a tired corporate worker, falls asleep on a company bus heading to a ski trip. The bus crashes, and he dies. He wakes up in Labyrinth Country, a world where people who die in other worlds are reborn as Seekers — adventurers who explore dangerous labyrinths filled with monsters.
At the registration desk, Arihito writes down “Rearguard” as his class choice. The system gives him a previously unknown class literally called Rearguard. This class focuses on supporting allies from the back lines with attack boosts, defense buffs, and healing abilities.
At the mercenary guild, Arihito meets Theresia, a masked demihuman slave girl. They form a party and enter a labyrinth together. Arihito starts learning how his Rearguard skills work and how to support Theresia during battles. The fantasy world is used to receiving reincarnators, so nobody questions his background.
Episode 2 continues their journey as Arihito and Theresia face greater challenges. According to the light novel source material, the group prepares to move from the eighth district to the seventh district. A monster stampede from the nearby labyrinth turns the town into a battlefield, forcing them into action. They also encounter the 117th Hidden God named Ariadne, who grants Arihito more abilities as a powerful rearguard.
What to Expect in Episode 3
Episode 3 will continue Arihito’s adventure as he builds his party and explores deeper into Labyrinth Country. Based on the light novel and manga storylines, Arihito and his group face new obstacles as they climb the ranks.
The party’s main goal involves helping Theresia. They have heard about miracles at a cathedral in District Four and feel determined to make Theresia human again. Many labyrinths stand between them and their objective.
A new challenge appears when they encounter a top-ranked alliance called Beyond Liberty in District Seven. This group may become either allies or rivals as Arihito’s party continues their upward climb.
The official preview for Episode 3 shows still images and confirms the July 19 air date. The anime’s opening theme song is “license” by the band Redhair Rosy, and the ending theme is “Owaranai Yoru no Mamorikata”.

Why Fans Are Watching
The show offers a different take on the isekai genre. Instead of a main character who charges into battle with overpowered attack skills, Arihito works from the back lines. His Rearguard class lets him boost his teammates’ abilities rather than fighting directly.
The all-female adventuring party dynamic adds another layer to the story. Arihito acts as the tactical backbone, using attack, defense, and recovery buffs to keep his team alive.
The series explores themes of second chances and finding purpose after death. Arihito rejects his demanding former manager Kyouka and chooses his own path in the new world. Viewers who enjoy fantasy adventures with strategic combat and party-based storytelling find this series appealing.
Episode 3 arrives on July 19, and fans can catch new episodes weekly on Crunchyroll.
