Tokyo Revengers: War of the Three Titans Arc Episode 3, titled “Crack a Smile,” arrived on October 16, 2026, and it changed the direction of the final saga in a major way. The episode, which is the 53rd overall episode of the series, moved Takemichi Hanagaki from a hard-won peaceful future straight into a new nightmare. Mikey is not just missing — he is the head of Bonten, Japan’s most dangerous criminal organization, and Takemichi’s time-leaping power has stopped working.
The time capsule that the old Toman members buried twelve years ago finally opened, and the letters inside gave every character a moment to reflect on who they were and who they have become. Here is where each major character stands after Episode 3.
Takemichi Hanagaki: A Hero Who Cannot Leap Back
Takemichi began the episode hoping for a simple answer. He went to Draken’s bike shop to ask about Mikey, only to learn that Draken had not seen Mikey in ten years. Draken warned him to leave the past alone and described the last time he saw Mikey as seeing a completely different, darker person.
The confirmation from Naoto Tachibana made things worse. Mikey leads Bonten, a syndicate that far surpasses Tokyo Manji in both size and cruelty. Takemichi asked Naoto to shake hands and send him back, but the time-leap did not trigger. Naoto had already achieved his goal of saving Hinata, so the handshake no longer carries the power it once did.
Takemichi then told Chifuyu everything, and Chifuyu gave him the same advice as the others: live your own life. Takemichi did not accept that. He decided to gather the old group and find Manjiro Sano, setting the central mission of the arc in motion.
Manjiro Sano (Mikey): The Leader of Bonten
Mikey is the emotional core of Episode 3 even though he barely appears on screen. The episode showed Bonten in action, with Sanzu torturing a group of traitors inside a warehouse and shooting them dead on Mikey’s order. Familiar faces filled Bonten’s ranks, including Koko, Kakucho, Kanji Mochizuki, the Haitani brothers, and Takeomi Akashi.
Mikey’s new appearance drew comparisons to Izana Kurokawa, which fits the episode’s message that his dark impulses have consumed him. The old Toman members learned that Mikey had cut ties with everyone and chosen to carry his suffering alone. The future Takemichi fought for is real, but Mikey is missing from it, and that contradiction drives the entire season forward.
Ken Ryuguji (Draken): The Friend Who Stayed Silent
Draken has been running his bike shop and living a stable life, but Episode 3 revealed that he hid the truth about Mikey’s decline for years. Draken told Takemichi to move on, not because he stopped caring, but because he had already watched Mikey become someone unrecognizable.
Draken’s time capsule letter carried the weight of that loss. He wrote about how hard and confusing that year was and admitted he did not want Toman to end, but he knew he needed the strength to walk his own path. Draken’s story in Episode 3 is about a man who accepted a painful reality while still holding on to the memory of his best friend.
Chifuyu Matsuno: The Loyal Voice of Reason
Chifuyu now works at a pet shop, and his role in Episode 3 was to give Takemichi honest advice. He told Takemichi to live his own life like the others did. Chifuyu did not push the mission away out of fear; he simply understood that chasing Mikey again could cost Takemichi the peace he had earned.
Chifuyu’s time capsule letter was one of the lighter moments of the reunion. He and Hakkai had written childish messages to themselves, which gave the episode a brief break from its heavy tone. That balance is part of what makes Chifuyu a grounding presence for Takemichi.
Kazutora Hanemiya: The Unexpected Ally
Kazutora made a short but important appearance in Episode 3. After Takemichi left the pet shop, Kazutora followed him and said he wanted to find Mikey too. That moment turned Takemichi’s solo mission into a shared one.
Kazutora’s involvement carries extra weight because of his history with Toman and with Mikey. His willingness to search for Mikey shows that the old bonds have not completely broken, even after everything that happened. Kazutora did not get a time capsule letter scene, but his decision to join the search gives his character a clear direction in the arc.
Hakkai Shiba and Mitsuya Takashi: The Time Capsule Reflects Their Growth
Hakkai reminded Takemichi about the time capsule and the one-day window to open it. His letter was playful, written in the same childish spirit as Chifuyu’s. That fits Hakkai’s role as someone who has grown up but still holds on to the lighter parts of his youth.
Mitsuya wrote a letter that went back to his roots and told him to keep working toward becoming a fashion designer. Mitsuya’s journey from a Toman captain to a designer is one of the clearest examples of a character who built a future outside the gang, and his letter confirmed that he stayed true to that path.
Sanzu Haruchiyo: Bonten’s Enforcer
Sanzu had a direct and violent role in Episode 3. He was the one carrying out the punishment of traitors inside Bonten, acting on Mikey’s orders without hesitation. His presence in Bonten’s inner circle shows how far he has moved from his days as a Toman member.
Sanzu’s position as Bonten’s No. 2 places him at the center of the new conflict. Episode 3 did not explain how Sanzu rose to that position, but his loyalty to Mikey is clear. His brother, Takeomi Akashi, is also part of Bonten, which adds a family layer to the organization’s structure.
Kokonoi, Kakucho, and the Rest of Bonten
Koko and Kakucho appeared among Bonten’s members alongside Kanji Mochizuki, Ran Haitani, Rindo Haitani, and Takeomi Akashi. Their presence confirmed that several former allies from earlier arcs now stand on the opposite side of Takemichi’s mission.
Kakucho’s place in Bonten is especially notable given his connection to Izana. Episode 3 did not give him dialogue, but his inclusion in the organization suggests that the loss of Izana pushed him toward Mikey’s new path. The full weight of these choices will likely surface as the arc continues.
Naoto Tachibana: The Power That No Longer Works
Naoto delivered the episode’s most important information. He confirmed Mikey’s role as Bonten’s leader and then told Takemichi to move on because their original goal was already achieved. When Takemichi asked to shake hands, nothing happened.
Naoto’s arc has reached a natural stopping point. He saved his sister, and the power that came from that mission is gone. His refusal to help Takemichi again is not coldness; it is the result of a story that already found its ending. That leaves Takemichi without the tool that solved every previous crisis.
The Time Capsule and Mikey’s Letter
The time capsule reunion brought the old Toman members together, but Mikey did not show up even after they waited for hours. The group opened his letter without him and found that Mikey had figured out everyone’s futures. He wrote about forging his own path and said the group was still together because of unbreakable ties.
That letter hit the group hard. Some of them cried, believing Mikey was thinking of them somewhere else. Takemichi stayed behind to read his own letter, which turned out to be short and simple. Beneath it, he found a strange tape he did not recognize. The tape is the episode’s final hook, and it points toward a message from Mikey that the group has not heard yet.
New Characters Waiting in the Three Titans Conflict
Episode 3 focused on the aftermath of the Toman reunion, but the War of the Three Titans Arc is built around three rival gangs: Brahman, Rokuhara Tandai, and Kanto Manji. The new leaders are already confirmed for the season, even though they did not appear in this episode.
- Senju Kawaragi leads Brahman and is voiced by Mariya Ise.
- South Terano leads Rokuhara Tandai and is voiced by Hiroki Yasumoto.
- Takeomi Akashi, Wakasa Imaushi, and Keizo Arashi are also central to the new conflict.
These characters are the “three titans” that give the arc its name, and their war is the backdrop for Takemichi’s search for Mikey.
