Suspect Michael Gledhill Arrested After Bizarre 911 Call

The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call around 9:30 a.m. in the 19200 block of Erwin Street in the Tarzana neighborhood. Officers arrived to find Handy unconscious in his front yard with a stab wound to his chest. He was rushed to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The suspect, Michael Gledhill, 44, was arrested at the scene. Police say Gledhill lives at the home with his mother, who was Handy’s girlfriend. According to authorities, Gledhill made a disturbing statement to the 911 dispatcher.

“I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”

Gledhill reportedly flagged down responding officers and told them he was the person they were looking for. He was booked on one count of murder at the Van Nuys Jail, with bail set at $2 million.

Born in New York City, James Handy began his acting career in 1977 with the film Taps. Over nearly 50 years, he amassed almost 150 film and television credits.

Younger audiences recognized him from recent blockbusters. He played a bartender named Jimmy in Top Gun: Maverick (2022). He also appeared as a doctor treating Hugh Jackman’s character in Logan (2017). One of his most beloved roles was as the exterminator in the 1995 family classic Jumanji.
