Amazon Prime Video is returning to the sun-drenched, secret-filled world of the Sinclair family for a second season, but with a major twist. Instead of a direct sequel to the shocking events of Season 1, the new season will primarily act as a prequel, delving into the dramatic teenage summers of the Sinclair sisters.
We Were Liars Season 2 was officially confirmed by Prime Video in September 2025. While an exact premiere date has not been announced, production is scheduled to begin in Summer 2026, which points to a potential release in 2027. Like the first season, the show will be available to stream on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories worldwide.
What We Were Liars Season 2 Will Be About
The second season will draw heavily from E. Lockhart’s prequel novel, Family of Liars, which is set in 1987 and focuses on the three Sinclair sisters during their own tumultuous teenage years on Beechwood Island. The show’s official logline reveals a dual-timeline structure:
In Season 2, in an effort to confront her truth, Cadence (Emily Alyn Lind) returns to Beechwood. As she digs deeper into family secrets, she learns about the Sinclair Sisters’ summer of 1999 โ a summer rife with first love, rivalry, and even murder. In flashbacks, we see Carrie, Penny, and Bess navigate their own teenage summer, as they come to terms with their past in the present day.
This confirms that while the show is going back in time, it will not abandon the present-day narrative of Cadence Sinclair Eastman as she deals with the aftermath of the first season’s devastating revelations.
The Cast of We Were Liars Season 2
The season will feature a mix of returning stars and new cast members to portray both the present-day and younger versions of the Sinclair family.

- Emily Alyn Lind will return as Cadence Sinclair, the narrator of the series.

- The adult Sinclair sisters, played by Mamie Gummer (Carrie), Caitlin FitzGerald (Penny), and Candice King (Bess), are also expected to return to bridge the two timelines.
New Cast Members as Younger Versions
To tell the story of the Sinclair sisters in 1999, the show has cast younger actors to take on these iconic roles.

- Peyton List (The Rookie) as a young Tipper Sinclair.
- Madison Wolfe (True Detective) as a young Bess Sinclair.
