The end is nearly here for Darth Maul’s animated comeback. Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is preparing to drop its final two episodes, Chapters 9 and 10, on Monday, May 4, 2026. While fans have gotten used to a steady release schedule over the last few weeks, Lucasfilm is changing the rules for the finale, moving away from a global simultaneous drop to a localized release strategy.

This ten-episode series from Lucasfilm Animation serves as a pulpy sequel to “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” The story follows Maul as he tries to rebuild his criminal empire on a planet hidden from the Empire’s reach. He meets a young Jedi Padawan named Devon Izara, played by Gideon Adlon, who might become his new apprentice. The show is created by Dave Filoni, with Sam Witwer returning to voice the iconic Sith Lord.

Why the ‘Maul – Shadow Lord’ Finale Drops at Midnight in Your Country

For the first eight episodes, Disney+ released two new chapters every Monday at 12:00 a.m. Pacific Time (PT). This meant fans in the US saw them Sunday night, while international viewers had to wait until the morning. However, the official Star Wars site and the Disney press release confirmed that the finale would break this pattern.

The final two episodes, Chapter 9: “Strange Allies” and Chapter 10: “Finale”, will release at 12:00 a.m. local time on May 4. Because the world has different time zones, fans in New Zealand and Australia will get access to the ending hours before viewers in the United States. This unique move means there is no single countdown for everyone to watch together.

“The age of Maul begins with the first two episodes in the series premiering weekly at 12 a.m. PT beginning April 6, 2026, on Disney+ with the finale episodes at 12 a.m. local time on May the 4th, Star Wars Day.” – Lucasfilm Press Release

This decision turns the Star Wars Day release into a rolling global premiere. As the calendar flips to May 4 in each region, the episodes go live.

What to Expect in the ‘Shadow Lord’ Finale

The tension has been building for weeks. Episode 8, “The Creeping Fear,” ended with Maul facing a major problem. A significant number of his Mandalorian troops left him. He is also stuck in a difficult position with the Eleventh Brother (an Inquisitor hunting Jedi survivors) and the dark side warrior Marrok.

The episode also looked into Maul’s past, showing the difficult training he went through under Emperor Palpatine (Darth Sidious). Devon Izara continues to reject Maul’s offers to join him, creating a tense push-and-pull that will likely explode in the finale.

According to the official episode titles, “Strange Allies” suggests Maul might be forced to work with someone he doesn’t trust. Fans are guessing that Dryden Vos, the crime boss from “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” might appear. In the movies, Vos worked for Maul’s Crimson Dawn syndicate until his death.

The final chapter is simply called “Finale.” Devon’s master, Master Eeko-Dio-Daki (voiced by Dennis Haysbert), is still in danger. Devon will likely have to make a hard choice: accept the dark path to save her friends, or watch everything fall apart.

Where to Stream and How to Catch Up

All episodes of “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord” are streaming exclusively on Disney+. If you missed the previous chapters, you can watch Chapter 7 (“Call to the Oblivion”) and Chapter 8 right now. The series is rated for older teens and adults, featuring the darker, realistic animation style that Lucasfilm first tested in “Tales of the Jedi.”

While this is the end of the first season, the story isn’t over. Lucasfilm has already confirmed that a second season is in the works. This finale will set up Maul’s next move in the criminal underworld, bridging the gap between the Clone Wars era and the events of “Solo.”
