The third episode of From Season 4 dropped on May 3, 2026, on MGM+, and it is putting the residents of the Township through some heavy emotional damage. Following the shocking death of Jim Matthews in the previous episode, the town is forced to hold two funerals while dealing with the creepy presence of “Sophia,” who is secretly the Man in Yellow.
Here is a simple breakdown of everything that happened in Episode 3, titled “Merrily We Go.”
The Town Holds Two Heartbreaking Funerals
The episode opens with the community gathering to say goodbye to Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey) and the pastor who was killed alongside him. Tabitha (Catalina Sandino Moreno) and her kids, Julie (Hannah Cheramy) and Ethan (Simon Webster), are trying to hold it together.
Boyd (Harold Perrineau) starts the service, but things take a very strange turn. A large group of crows suddenly swarms the funeral, landing everywhere and cawing loudly instead of staying quiet. Julie says it feels like the birds are “celebrating” rather than mourning. It is another reminder that the town’s monsters are not sorry for what happened.
Tabitha Plans a Dangerous Escape
While everyone else is eating after the funeral, Tabitha secretly decides to leave her children to go back to the bottle tree. She thinks that if she goes through it, she can reach the lighthouse and escape again, just like she did in Season 3.
Henry (Robert Joy) catches her before she leaves. He tries to talk her out of it, reminding her that Dale died horribly trying to go through that same tree last season. Tabitha insists that she has to try, so Henry decides to go with her to stop her from doing something stupid.
When they reach the tree, The Boy in White stops them. He looks older than before and warns Tabitha that the rules have changed. He says, “You’re getting so close, but you’re running out of time.” He implies that the bottle tree might not work as an exit for her anymore.
Ethan Searches for the “Lake of Tears”
Ethan is dealing with his father’s death in a unique way. Back in the previous episode, a ghost or vision of Jim told Ethan to find the “Lake of Tears.” Ethan believes this magical lake can fix broken things.
He forces Victor (Scott McCord) to help him look for it. They go into the woods and find Jade (David Alpay) meditating in a pond. Jade is struggling to remember past lives and keeps asking Boyd for LSD to help unlock his memories.
Ethan explains that the Lake of Tears might be real, even if he thought he made it up as a kid. He points out that his mom, Tabitha, used to dream about red rocks that turned out to be real in the town.
While searching, Victor suddenly freezes in fear. He finds a pile of yellow clothes on the ground. This is the outfit The Man in Yellow wore before he changed into Sophia. Seeing it causes Victor to have a breakdown and wet his pants. The episode ends with Tabitha and Henry finding Victor crying over the clothes, while Boyd faces a separate horror at the cemetery.
Boyd Faces a Ghost from the Past
Boyd spends the episode trying to keep the town’s petty problems from exploding. He talks down Acosta, a police officer who is losing her mind and wants to kill herself. Boyd gives her a job (organizing storage rooms) to keep her busy.
However, the real scare happens at the end of the episode. Boyd walks to his dead wife Abby’s grave to talk. As he is speaking, a pale, rotting hand suddenly bursts out of the dirt from the grave and grabs Boyd’s arm, pulling him toward the ground. It is not clear if this is a real attack, a vision from the town, or if Abby is somehow trying to drag him to the other side.
Sophia (The Man in Yellow) Causes Trouble
Inside the town, Sophia (who is actually the Man in Yellow) continues to lie to everyone. She convinces Kenny (Ricky He) to let her live with Sara, the woman who killed her brother. Sophia also causes a fight with Julie at the diner. She tells Julie that her family arriving in the town is the reason why everything has gotten worse.
Julie, still reeling from her dad’s death, runs off upset. She asks Randall to help her go through the rubble of her old house to find storywalking books so she can figure out how to travel through time to save her father.
