Bulgarian singer Dara won the Eurovision 2026 contest on May 16 in Vienna with her song “Bangaranga.” She scored 516 points and beat Israel which finished second with 343 points. Many fans now ask how much money she gets for winning one of the world’s biggest music competitions.
The short answer is zero. Dara will not receive any cash prize for winning the 70th Eurovision Song Contest.
What The Eurovision 2026 Winner Actually Receives
The winner of Eurovision does not take home money. Instead, Dara received the Crystal Microphone trophy. This trophy has been the official prize since 2008. It is made by hand from glass and looks like a microphone from the 1950s. Swedish artist Kjell Engman of Kosta Boda designed the trophy.
The songwriters and composers who worked on “Bangaranga” also get smaller versions of the same trophy. That is the complete prize package for winning the contest.
Why There Is No Prize Money For Dara
The Eurovision Song Contest has never given cash to winners. The competition started in 1956 and has followed this rule for 70 years. The European Broadcasting Union, which runs the contest, focuses on giving artists a global stage rather than a check.
The real reward is what happens after the win. Past winners show how valuable the exposure can be. ABBA won for Sweden in 1974 and became one of the biggest bands in music history. Celine Dion won for Switzerland in 1988 and built a legendary career. More recently, Italian rock band Maneskin won in 2021 and now sells out arenas worldwide.
Dara can expect similar opportunities. Her win puts her music in front of millions of new listeners across Europe, Australia, and beyond.
How Dara Won Eurovision 2026
The grand finale took place at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna. Dara, who is a known pop star in Bulgaria, entered the contest without being a favorite among bookmakers. But she won both the jury vote and the public vote. This has not happened since 2017.
She earned 204 points from national juries and 312 points from the public televote. Her total of 516 points gave her a 173-point lead over Israel’s entry. That is the largest winning margin in the contest’s history under current voting rules.
Romania and Australia finished among the top performers. The United Kingdom’s entry, Sam Battle who performs as Look Mum No Computer, finished last with just one point.
What Bangaranga Means And Who Is Dara
Dara explained the meaning of her winning song on stage. She said “Bangaranga” is “the feeling that everybody gets in themselves the moment you choose to lead through love and not fear.” The song uses a traditional Bulgarian vocal technique that includes microtones and emotional singing.
Dara started her music career at age 16 on X Factor Bulgaria, where she finished third. She has mentored young singers on The Voice of Bulgaria in 2021 and 2022. Her latest album “ADHDARA” came out in 2025. She studied at the National School of Arts in Varna with a focus on folklore singing.

Bulgaria Gets To Host Eurovision 2027
The winning country gets to host the competition the next year. Bulgaria will now organize Eurovision 2027. This is a big deal for the country because this is its first ever Eurovision win. Hosting costs millions and brings tourism and global attention to the winning nation.
For Dara, the real money will come from what happens next. Winners see huge jumps in music streaming numbers. They get better booking deals for concerts and festivals. Record labels and brands want to work with them. The win opens doors that cash alone cannot buy.
So while Dara did not get a direct payment for winning Eurovision 2026, her career value just increased by a very large amount.
