Ajay Devgn’s upcoming action film Chauhaan has run into trouble just days after its teaser release. The Kshatriya Parishad, a Rajput community organisation, has strongly criticised the makers for using the Chauhan clan name. They accuse the film of dragging Rajput history into divisive politics.
The controversy started after the film’s announcement on June 25. The teaser shows Ajay Devgn as a police officer dealing with unrest in Kashmir. The Kshatriya Parishad released a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on June 29, condemning the project.
“We strongly condemn the attempt by Neeraj Yadav and Ajay Devgn’s upcoming film Chauhaan to appropriate the Chauhan clan name for contemporary communal politics. Rajput history is not a political prop.”
The organisation said the Chauhan name belongs to history and should not be used for political purposes.
What the Kshatriya Parishad Said
The Kshatriya Parishad said the film shows a lack of understanding of Indian history. They argued that reducing complex history to simple communal stories is wrong.
The group pointed out that Rajput identity has been pulled into political debates without the community’s consent. They called this act irresponsible.
“At a time when Rajput voices remain underrepresented in mainstream media and public discourse, invoking a Rajput clan name merely to provoke outrage is both irresponsible and disrespectful.”
The organisation shared examples from history where Rajputs and Afghans fought together. These included:
- Mahmud Lodi fighting with Maharana Sanga at the Battle of Khanwa
- Hakim Khan Sur serving in Maharana Pratap’s army at Haldighati
- Sher Shah Suri serving under Raja Raisal Shekhawat
- Maharaja Vikramaditya Tomar fighting with Lodi forces at Panipat
They said these examples show that old alliances were based on strategy and loyalty, not just religion.
The Kshatriya Parishad clearly stated its position on the matter.
“Kshatriya Parishad rejects every attempt to weaponise Rajput history or appropriate Rajput identities for electoral or ideological purposes. Historical memory must not become a tool for communal mobilisation.”
They urged filmmakers and media to handle India’s history with care and respect.
Teaser Also Faced Criticism Over Dialogue
The Chauhaan teaser had already received negative reactions online before the Rajput group’s statement. One dialogue in particular caused a stir.
The teaser shows Devgn’s character saying pellet guns cause “limited damage.” This line drew strong criticism on social media. Many users pointed out that pellet guns have caused serious injuries and permanent blindness in Kashmir.
Another line from the teaser—”Tell Pathaans that Chauhaan has come”—also caused debate. Some social media users felt this dialogue carried communal undertones.
Actor Swara Bhasker also criticised the teaser. She shared a news report about pellet gun victims in Kashmir and wrote:
“Is this what you want to glorify Bollywood? Pellet guns are not ‘limited damage’. They are a gross human rights violation. And mainstream Kashmiris are not Pathaans.”
She called the film “The Vivek Agnihotri-fication of Bollywood” in a post on social media.

Chauhaan marks the first collaboration between Ajay Devgn and filmmaker Aanand L Rai. The movie is directed by Neeraj Yadav.
The film is produced by Jio Studios and Colour Yellow Productions. Jyoti Deshpande, Aanand L Rai, and Himanshu Sharma are the producers.
The teaser, released on June 25, shows Devgn in a powerful role. The story is set in Kashmir and shows him as a man given a mission to stop insurgency and bring peace.
Chauhaan is set to release in theatres on October 1, 2027.
The makers and Ajay Devgn have not yet responded to the criticism from the Kshatriya Parishad.
