Episode 13 Recap: “Stand Up”

The previous episode, titled “Stand Up,” delivered one of the season’s most intense and emotional installments. The episode earned an impressive 9.9 rating from over 12,000 user votes on Bilibili.

Subaru’s Plan to Defeat Reid

Subaru devised a clever strategy to overcome the formidable Reid. He realized that the library in the Pleiades Watchtower contained books documenting the lives of those who had died. If they could find Reid’s book, they could learn his weaknesses and find a way to defeat him. This plan demonstrated that even with his lost memories, Subaru remained cunning and resourceful.

Subaru Supports Julius

Subaru also gave Julius the confidence boost he desperately needed. After Julius lost his battle to Reid, he no longer saw himself as an excellent fighter. Subaru told Julius that he had the ability to face and defeat Reid – the only thing he lacked was confidence. Even though Subaru himself often feels fear, he proved to be a genuine source of encouragement for others when they needed it most.

The Trap of Reid’s Book

The episode’s biggest twist came when Subaru discovered that Reid’s book was actually a trap. This was the same place where Subaru had previously lost his memories. Things became more complicated when Rui, one of the Sin Archbishops of the Witch Cult, appeared in the book. It became clear that Rui was the one who had taken Subaru’s memories. Subaru had tried to enter the book before, and that was exactly what caused him to completely forget everything.

Rem’s Crucial Support

Rui spent most of the episode trying to convince Subaru to give up and let go of his own self. Rui also tried to scare Subaru into believing that if he regained his memories, the current version of him would slowly fade away and the relationships he had built would be lost. Rui’s tactics began to work.

However, Rem arrived at the perfect moment to save Subaru. She became a pillar of support for him, helping him find the strength to stand back up. By declaring him her hero, Rem gave Subaru exactly what he needed to keep fighting.
