Fox’s medical drama Doc is set to return for its third season on Tuesday, September 22, with a major cast shakeup that brings back familiar faces while welcoming new ones. Molly Parker leads the returning ensemble as Dr. Amy Larsen, the brilliant physician rebuilding her life after a car crash erased eight years of her memory. The 22-episode season will also see Blair Underwood promoted to series regular as Dr. Ben Grant, a trauma and cardiothoracic surgeon whose ego rivals Amy’s own. Several key cast members from Season 2 will not return, including Felicity Huffman and Charlotte Fountain-Jardim, while four new recurring actors join the medical team as interns.
Who Is Returning for Doc Season 3
The core cast of Doc remains intact for Season 3, with six series regulars confirmed to return. Molly Parker is back as Dr. Amy Larsen, the central character around whom the series revolves. Parker also serves as a producer this season, according to Deadline.
Omar Metwally returns as Dr. Michael Hamda, alongside Amirah Vann as Dr. Gina Walker. Jon Ecker reprises his role as Dr. Jake Heller, and Anya Banerjee returns as Dr. Sonya Maitra. Patrick Walker is also back as Dr. TJ Coleman.
Additional returning cast members include Claire Armstrong as Nurse Julie and Conni Miu as Nurse Liz, both of whom are expected to reprise their recurring roles. Scott Wolf, who appeared in Season 1 and had a recurring guest role in Season 2 as Dr. Richard Miller, may also return at some point during Season 3, though his involvement has not been confirmed as a series regular.
The Season 3 premiere is scheduled for September 22 at 9 p.m. ET on Fox, with episodes streaming the next day on Hulu. The season was officially renewed in March 2026 with a full 22-episode order, matching the previous season’s pickup.
Blair Underwood Promoted to Series Regular
Blair Underwood first appeared as Dr. Ben Grant in the Season 2 finale, and his role has now been elevated to series regular for Season 3. The official character description paints a vivid picture of the new surgical chief:
“Dr. Ben Grant is a world-class trauma and cardiothoracic surgeon with an ego that somehow outpaces even his resume. A once-in-a-generation talent with the swagger to match, he doesn’t just save lives — he owns the OR. Impossibly magnetic and even more confident, he’s never not been the smartest person in the room… until he meets Dr. Amy Larsen. Almost instantly, their approaches clash, egos collide, and sparks fly like Westside has never seen. Together, their brilliance is unmatched — as long as they can survive each other”.
Underwood’s addition brings a new dynamic to the hospital, particularly since the show previously lacked a central surgical figure. His character is expected to be on a collision course with Parker’s Dr. Amy Larsen throughout the season.
Four New Interns Join the Cast
Season 3 introduces four new recurring cast members, all playing a group of interns who will work under Amy and Sonya’s supervision. The new additions were confirmed by Deadline in August 2026.
Barrett Carnahan, known for his work in Cobra Kai and For All Mankind, plays Graham Barker. His character is described as entitled, smooth, and charming, driven to prove that he is more than just the nephew of one of the hospital’s wealthy donors.
Raffa Virago, whose credits include Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and Davey and Jonesie’s Locker, takes on the role of Nikki De Silva. Nikki is described as wound tight, an overachiever who is sharp and quick-witted.
Cecilia Lee, from Star Trek: Starfleet Academy and Fear Street: Prom Queen, plays Ruth Chen. Ruth is empathetic, eager, and kind, always cheering on her fellow interns. Though highly intelligent, she can get frazzled when overwhelmed.
Kolton Stewart, known for My Life with the Walter Boys and Heated Rivalry, rounds out the new group as Kyle Ferguson, the youngest of the interns. Kyle is brilliant and humble, a fish out of water because he was homeschooled. He is also direct, sincere, and guileless.
Who Is Not Returning for Season 3
Three cast members from Season 2 will not return for the third season. Felicity Huffman, who joined the show in Season 2 as Dr. Joan Ridley, Amy’s mentor and friend, is exiting as a series regular. Her character died in the Season 2 finale, a major storyline that concluded her arc on the show.
Charlotte Fountain-Jardim, who played Katie Hamda, Amy’s daughter, since the show’s beginning, will also not be returning as a series regular. Her character is heading off to Northwestern University, and Fountain-Jardim is expected to guest star in the future.
Doc showrunner Hank Steinberg addressed Katie’s departure in a statement:
“Katie’s off to college, and that’s a different chapter for Amy and Michael, which is appropriate and a good shift”.
Paulyne Wei, who played Nurse Lucy, will not return for Season 3 following her character’s death in the Season 2 finale.
