Law & Order: Special Victims Unit returned on Thursday, November 5, 2026, with a new episode that gave viewers two big moments at once: a guest appearance from New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson and a case that flipped the SVU squad’s investigation in a completely different direction. The episode, titled “Forsaken,” aired at 9 p.m. ET on NBC and arrived on Peacock the next day. Brunson played Detective Jay Madison, a name that nods to Madison Square Garden, the home arena of the Knicks.

What Happened in “Forsaken”

The case began at a wedding reception for Johnathan and Andrea Oakes. Two bridesmaids walked into a washroom and found an injured 16-year-old girl named Chloe Davis on the floor. Sergeant Amanda Rollins, played by Kelli Giddish, confirmed that Chloe had been s*xually assaulted and that her head had been struck against the vanity.

Captain Olivia Benson, played by Mariska Hargitay, and Rollins spoke with Chloe’s stepfather, Rick Davis, and her brothers. Benson noticed marks on Chloe’s hands. Chloe’s mother cut the conversation short, saying she knew nothing about the attacker. Chloe gave only a few details: the person had reddish hair, wore a white shirt, and was older than her.

Rollins chased down a red-haired man named George who tried to run from the reception. George said he panicked because he had illegal drugs, which he bought from a caterer named Scott. The squad checked the wedding CCTV footage and learned that no caterer named Scott was on the official list. Captain Renee Curry, played by Aimé Donna Kelly, questioned Scott, who was on probation and had missed a court hearing. Scott denied assaulting anyone.

The Secret That Changed the Case

Chloe could not identify her attacker and told Benson the person was not at the wedding. Rollins learned that Rick Davis was not Chloe’s biological father and had a record of harassment for throwing a plant pot at a neighbor. The squad also discovered that Chloe’s younger brother, Evan, had once stabbed a teacher with scissors. The teacher described Rick as a man with a bad temper.

Benson met Detective Jay Madison, who had arrested Rick two years earlier on charges of DWI and resisting arrest. Madison shared details from that arrest, including information tied to the assault weapon. Officers searched the Davis home after Benson obtained a warrant. Sergeant Odafin Tutuola, played by Ice-T, found a punched wall and a knife.

Jalen Brunson’s Scene as Detective Madison

Brunson’s scene ran for about one minute, but it gave the case its missing piece. Benson met Madison at a diner. Madison was out of uniform, eating pizza at the bar. Benson greeted him: “Detective Madison, look at you out of uniform. Congratulations on the promotion.” Brunson replied: “Thanks Captain. Focused on my goals, gave 110 percent, things worked out.”.

Madison then described Rick’s earlier arrest: “Your boy Rick, a real pain in the ass. Blew a .25 and started yelling at me”. The detail helped the squad connect Rick’s past behavior to the evidence in Chloe’s case.

“Watch out for King Brunson, the King of New York,” Corey Cott said in an interview with NBC Insider ahead of the episode. “He’s coming!”

“I can’t wait for people to see him because he can do anything and everybody’s gonna see that,” Kevin Kane added.

Brunson’s appearance came months after he and the Knicks won the 2026 NBA Championship. He had said in June that he wanted a role on SVU after the championship win. Hargitay, a longtime Knicks supporter, helped make it happen. Brunson had called Hargitay his “number one” celebrity Knicks fan. “Love her to death, she knows it,” he said on The Richard Jefferson Show.

Chloe Names Her Brother Tyler

Benson went back to Chloe with the new details from Madison and the search. Chloe finally told the truth. Her older brother, Tyler, had hit on a girl at the wedding. The girl rejected him, and Tyler felt humiliated. When he noticed Chloe watching, he attacked her. Chloe said Tyler hated her and had assaulted her before. Their mother had manipulated her into staying quiet.

Detective Terry Bruno, played by Kevin Kane, and Renee arrested Tyler.

The Court Hearing

At trial, the judge set Tyler’s bail at $250,000 and issued a temporary order of protection. The defense tried to paint Chloe as a liar with a history of troubling behavior. Rick testified that Tyler had a good heart and that Chloe was difficult. ADA Dominick Carisi, played by Peter Scanavino, argued that Rick was simply protecting his son. Chloe’s mother then shared troubling information about Tyler’s temper, and Chloe said Evan was afraid of Tyler too.

Where “Forsaken” Sits in Season 28

Season 28 began on October 8, 2026, with the episode “Volition.” That premiere followed a young woman who believed she was assaulted by three men, and a hung jury sent the case to a retrial. Episode 4, “Arcana,” centered on a clairvoyant named Beatrice Witt, played by Susannah Flood, whose account of a nighttime assault raised questions for the squad. The case also touched on Captain Curry’s family history.

The series is now run by Michele Fazekas, its first female showrunner. Hargitay said she was proud of every showrunner the show has had, but “I really wanted a female showrunner,” as Hello! reported.
