Hulu’s crime thriller Furious delivered its most intense episode yet with “Some Days It Don’t Come Easy,” the penultimate chapter of Season 1. The episode picked up right after the shocking events of Episode 6, where Catherine Grace (Lola Petticrew) shot Marshall (Jake Lacy) to protect FBI Agent Alice Black (Emmy Rossum). Episode 7 threw the characters into a whirlwind of hospital rooms, painful revelations, and a plan that could finally bring down Jay Easton (Peter McRobbie).

Hospital Aftermath and a Mother’s Accusations
Episode 7 begins with Alice waking up in a hospital bed. The drug overdose from the previous episode took a serious toll on her, but treatment helped her recover. Marshall survived the shooting as well, though he remains in the hospital under care.
Marshall’s mother shows up and immediately blames Alice for her son’s condition. She does not hold back, bringing up Alice’s difficult childhood. She reveals that she found Alice as a pre-teen living in a group home after she had been on the streets and had lost a baby. This painful piece of Alice’s past comes out in the worst possible way, in front of Danny (Scoot McNairy), who is trying to process everything he just learned.
CCTV footage from the incident shows Marshall intimidating Alice before he was shot. This evidence stops Marshall from lying about what really happened. But the damage is already done. Alice’s secret is out, and Marshall’s mother makes sure everyone knows it.
Nora’s Brutal Honesty Cuts Deep
Nora Washington (Quincy Tyler Bernstine) does not offer Alice any sympathy. She is furious that Alice chose to protect Marshall instead of chasing Catherine. Nora believes Marshall’s death would have helped the investigation more than his survival.
In one of the episode’s most powerful moments, Nora tells Alice:
“We become inhuman in defense of humanity. We become evil to fight evil.”
Nora accuses Alice of being too soft and reminds her that because she let Catherine escape, Jay Easton will likely die comfortably in his bed instead of facing justice. It is a harsh truth that hits Alice hard.

Danny has been carrying a USB drive containing Jay Easton’s home movies and other incriminating files. He takes Alice home after she is released from the hospital, and she asks him to stay with her.
Alice confesses her love for Danny and tells him she wants to go to his beach house with him. But Danny cannot focus on romance right now. He finally tells her what he found on the flash drive.
There is a video of Alice as a teenager on the drive. Jay Easton is not the man in the video, but the footage clearly shows Alice in a traumatic situation. From her later conversation with her sister Amy, viewers learn that Alice was around 14 years old at the time.
Alice wants Danny to turn over the evidence, but he refuses. He loves her too much to let anyone else see that video. He admits that he cannot get her face from the video out of his head. Danny tells Alice that maybe one day, when they are both healed, they can explore a relationship. But not now.
Emma Easton’s Horrifying Role Revealed
The episode takes viewers inside the Easton household, where Emma Easton (Hope Davis) reveals her true nature. She has been her father’s right-hand woman for years. Emma shows Jay a hidden safe room in his office where he meets with young girls. Even more disturbing, Emma is the one who brings these girls to him.
Emma Easton is not just covering up her father’s crimes. She is actively helping him continue his predatory behavior. This revelation adds a new layer of horror to the story. Emma has been working alongside her father, protecting him and enabling his abuse of young victims.
DNA Evidence Points to Emma
Danny reopens the Isabel Luna murder case after discovering a 24 percent DNA match between forensic samples found under Isabel’s fingernails and Caleb Easton . This DNA evidence directly connects Emma Easton to the crime.
Isabel Luna was one of Jay Easton’s victims, and her death has been a central mystery throughout the season. This DNA breakthrough suggests that Emma may have been directly involved in Isabel’s murder, not just in covering it up.
Corrupt Cop Ed Takes Control
Ed (Danny McCarthy), the crooked cop, takes over the case from Nora. He uses Marshall getting shot as an excuse to hand the investigation over to NYPD higher-ups who would rather kill Catherine on sight than let the case go further.
Ed discovers that Catherine’s laptop has been wiped clean. He also learns that someone copied the files from the laptop before the hard drive was scrubbed. Ed knows Danny has the flash drive, and he alerts Emma about Catherine and the possible search of the Easton home.
Ed is desperate to protect the Easton family and destroy any evidence that could bring them down.
Alice’s Plan Takes Shape
Despite everything falling apart, Alice refuses to give up. She tracks down Elena, Catherine’s daughter, who is being pimped out by a trafficker named Big Man in the Bronx.
Alice recruits a drunk Nora, who she finds singing karaoke, to help her. Together, they catch Big Man and Elena. Alice finds the burner phone Catherine left with Elena and pushes her to reveal Catherine’s location.
When Elena refuses to talk, Alice provokes her by revealing that Catherine lied about Isabel. Alice tells Elena that Isabel is actually her mother, not her sister.
Catherine is hiding in Elena’s room the whole time. Alice tells Catherine that there is no flash drive and no one wants to help her. She asks Catherine where she would go if she let her leave. Catherine understands exactly what Alice means.
Alice is giving Catherine instructions without saying them out loud. She wants Catherine to go to Jay Easton’s house in Connecticut. Alice plans to follow Catherine there, arrest her, and search Easton’s home at the same time.
When Nora asks about the plan, Alice explains that she finally got her wings. She has learned to use people for the greater good, just like Nora taught her.

“I think it is interesting that Alice has believed that she’s unable to get justice for herself throughout this whole story, and is in fact on a collision course with this serial killer, which will, in a kind of roundabout way, make her confront by proxy what was done to her.”
Rossum added that Alice’s past trauma drove her decisions:
“So I think what was done to her and the choices that she made are because of what was done to her. She’s living with a lot of secrets.”
Critical Reception
Critics have praised Episode 7 as one of the show’s best hours. The episode earned a 4.6 out of 5 rating from critics. Reviewers highlighted the performances, writing, and the way the episode brought the female trio of Alice, Nora, and Catherine together.
The dynamic between Alice and Nora has been a standout element of the series. Their mentor-mentee relationship is layered and compelling. Nora’s harsh honesty pushes Alice to become stronger, even when it hurts.
