Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, is making strong legal moves to find the person behind the recent Grand Theft Auto 6 leaks. The company has asked a US federal court to force Google and X Corp (formerly Twitter) to hand over user information that could identify the leaker known as Cyberleak.
This legal action comes after a week of ongoing leaks that have flooded the internet with gameplay clips, map images, and other content from the upcoming video game. The leaker, going by the name Cyberleak, has been posting new material almost every day since August 18.
Take-Two Goes After Tech Giants for User Data
On August 21, Take-Two filed requests with the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of New York for subpoenas against Google and X Corp. The court documents ask these companies “to produce the identity of entities or persons believed to be infringing on the copyright of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc.”.
The subpoena against X Corp targets an account with the username @cyberleek_ar_io, where leaked content was posted. The filing states that this content “infringes copyrights held by Take-Two for GRAND THEFT AUTO VI, proprietary software owned by Take-Two”.
For Google, the request includes screenshots of Cyberleak videos that were posted on YouTube. YouTube has already indicated that it complied with a takedown request, according to an email included in the court filing.
Take-Two has also filed similar subpoenas against Microsoft and Discord. The company is asking Microsoft to provide “any records related to various online accounts involved in posting and sharing leaks,” which includes user data as well as linked OneDrive and Xbox accounts.
What Take-Two Is Demanding from These Platforms
The legal requests go beyond just basic user information. Take-Two is asking for detailed data that could help track down the leaker.
From Microsoft, the publisher wants Windows device IDs, IP addresses from registration and last login, phone numbers, linked Google and Xbox accounts, and OneDrive content. They have also requested “all internal Microsoft business records and investigative records associated with Microsoft’s internal investigation of the ‘CyberLeek’ persona”.
For Discord, Take-Two is asking for information from all user accounts that communicated on three specific Discord servers since June 1, 2026. This includes account IDs, registration emails, IP addresses, phone numbers, linked connections, and any content related to GTA or CyberLeek from their OneDrive accounts.
From X Corp, Take-Two is demanding account IDs, registration emails, IP logs, and phone numbers for three blocked accounts.
Leaked Content Confirmed as Legitimate
The court filings include DMCA takedown requests that confirm the leaked videos are genuine. In one takedown request sent to X, Take-Two stated:
“The reported post contains unauthorized, leaked gameplay footage from the unreleased game Grand Theft Auto VI. This material reproduces our Client’s copyrighted, unreleased game assets and was published and distributed without any authorization from the copyright holder. The content is presented as genuine leaked Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay from Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., and its distribution constitutes unauthorized reproduction and public disclosure of our Client’s copyrighted work.”
This is the first time the company has publicly confirmed through legal documents that the leaked material is real.
Who Is Cyberleak?
The person or group behind the leaks calls themselves Cyberleak. They claim to be leaking the gameplay as an act of protest. On their website, Cyberleak wrote:
“Publishers sell licenses and call them purchases. They ship unfinished games and call them living services. They lock content on discs and call it DLC. They kill games and keep the money. Every year anti-consumerism tightens its grip, and every year gamers get less for what they pay.”
The group has a list of demands that include a physical disc version of the game, no paywalled solo player content, and full offline access. They also claim to have obtained a playable build of the game and are asking for cryptocurrency donations.
Since August 18, Cyberleak has been releasing video clips from what appears to be an unfinished version of GTA 6. The material is likely from an older development stage, but according to the leaker, they have a playable version.
What Has Been Leaked So Far
Cyberleak has shared several clips and screenshots that show different parts of GTA 6. The leaker has mostly avoided posting major story spoilers.
Some of the leaked content includes:
- A cropped portion of the in-game world map showing Dalton Island
- Another map section showing locations called Tequesta Retreat, Gloriana Key, and Catalan Key
- A video of protagonist Jason Duval throwing a basketball in a mini-game
- An alleged view of the entire in-game map
- Clips of Jason driving and interacting with other characters
- A clip showing a healing drug called Zombix
- A plane video that suggests the leaker has a playable version of the game
Recent clips reportedly show the protagonist in different locations, including a nudist community, a nightclub, and a beach.
Discord Has Not Yet Received Subpoena
Discord has confirmed that it has not yet been formally served with a subpoena from Take-Two. Discord marketing director Ryan K. Rigney posted on X:
“Discord has not yet been served with a subpoena from Take Two. When we do, we’ll evaluate the validity and scope before responding.”
This suggests that while Take-Two has filed the legal requests, some of the subpoenas may not have been officially delivered yet.

Official GTA 6 Gameplay Coming Soon
Rockstar is planning to release official gameplay footage of GTA 6 very soon. A new trailer will be shown on Netflix at 9 p.m. German time (3 p.m. ET) on Thursday, with a YouTube release following six hours later.
GTA 6 is scheduled to release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A PC version has not been announced.
