The BBC and BritBox have announced the full cast for their upcoming Agatha Christie adaptation, “Hercule,” which will explore the early years of the famous Belgian detective. The series features a mix of established stars and rising talent, with actors from “Game of Thrones,” “Oppenheimer,” and “The Hobbit” joining the project.
Edward Bluemel, known for his work in “Sex Education” and “My Lady Jane,” will play the young Hercule Poirot. The six-part series is produced by Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited for BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK, with BritBox handling distribution in North America.
Edward Bluemel Takes on the Role of Young Poirot
Edward Bluemel has been cast as a younger version of Agatha Christie’s iconic detective. The actor, who appeared in “Killing Eve” and “Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials,” will bring a fresh take to the character known for his meticulous nature and sharp observation skills.
Bluemel shared his thoughts on landing the part. He said he feels “very lucky” to have been “trusted with such an iconic character” and looks forward to working with the other actors in the series. He is the youngest actor to take on the role of Poirot in a television adaptation.

The casting announcement includes several well-known names from popular films and television shows. Jack Gleeson, who played King Joffrey in “Game of Thrones,” has joined the series. His role in the Poirot origin story marks a return to television for the Irish actor.
James D’Arcy, who appeared as Patrick Blackett in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” is also part of the cast. James Nesbitt, known for “Cold Feet” and “The Hobbit,” has signed on for what will be his first television period drama. The 61-year-old actor has mostly played modern-day characters throughout his career.
Other cast members include Henry Ashton (“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms”), Calvin Demba (“Supacell”), Phil Dunning (“Smoggie Queens”), Tamsin Greig (“Friday Night Dinner,” “Riot Women”), Guy Remmers (“The Buccaneers”), Rebecca Rittenhouse (“His & Hers”), and Mawaan Rizwan (“Juice”).
Tamsin Greig, known for her comedy work, joins the series alongside a range of actors from different backgrounds. The casting brings together performers from comedy, drama, and action genres.

Benji Walters, who wrote “Code of Silence,” is adapting the series for television. He also serves as an executive producer on the project. The first two episodes will be directed by Jonny Campbell, a BAFTA winner for “In The Flesh”. Chanya Button will direct the second block of episodes, and Alrick Riley will handle the final two episodes.
Charlie Palmer is the series producer. The executive producers include James Prichard for Agatha Christie Limited, Rebecca Durbin and Damien Timmer for Mammoth Screen, and Nick Lambon for the BBC. Robert Schildhouse, Jon Farrar, and Stephen Nye serve as executive producers for BritBox.
The series will consist of six 60-minute episodes. Fifth Season is handling global distribution.
