What Happened So Far in Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia
The story takes place in the 13th century during the height of the Mongol Empire under Genghis Khan. The main character is Sitara (voiced by Akira Sekine), a young girl born into slavery in the city of Tus, which is in present-day Eastern Iran.
After losing her mother, Sitara is sold to a family of scholars. The family, led by the kind widow Fatima (voiced by Houko Kuwashima), takes her in and provides her with an education. Sitara forms a close bond with Fatima’s son, Muhammad (voiced by Jun Saito), who teaches her the value of learning. For a time, Sitara’s life seems to be improving as she gains knowledge and a sense of belonging.
However, everything changes when the Mongol Empire’s invasion reaches her doorstep. The second episode takes a dark turn as Sitara witnesses the deaths of everyone she cares about. Fatima sacrifices herself to protect Sitara from an arrow fired by Tolui (voiced by Ryota Suzuki), the fourth son of Genghis Khan. Sitara is taken prisoner and forced to watch the destruction of her new home.
The third episode, which aired on July 11, revealed the true direction of the series. After losing everything, Sitara is ready to end her own life. But she remembers Muhammad’s teachings about using education to make the best choices. She decides to use her intelligence to take revenge on the Mongol Empire from within.
