The Kaiju No. 8 universe keeps growing. The popular monster-fighting anime just announced a new short focused on the lazy but super strong Captain Gen Narumi. The special episode, titled “Narumi’s Week at Work,” is scheduled to come out in Fall 2026.
This new short follows the same style as the previous special “Hoshina’s Day Off.” It will show what the First Division captain does during a normal work week. Fans will see a side of Narumi they do not usually get in the main story.
Kizuku Watanabe Writes the Original Story for Narumi’s Short
The short’s story comes from Kizuku Watanabe, the person who created the spin-off manga Kaiju No. 8 RELAX. This spin-off series runs in Saikyo Jump from Shueisha. Watanabe knows how to write lighter, funnier moments for these characters.
Shigeyuki Miya returns as director for this short. Tetsuya Nishio handles character designs and serves as chief animation director. Yuta Bando composes the music. The main anime studio Production I.G is animating this special episode as well.
Koki Uchiyama will once again provide the voice for Gen Narumi. The rest of the main cast may also appear in the short.
What Happens in ‘Narumi’s Week at Work’
Gen Narumi holds the title of “Japan’s Strongest Anti-Kaiju Combatant.” He leads the Defense Force’s First Division. But his personality does not match his skills.
Official descriptions say Narumi skips meetings, avoids office work, and plays online games during his free time. The short will show how even the strongest fighter deals with normal work problems. Unexpected situations may force him to actually do his job.
The key visual for the short shows Narumi lying on a thin mattress on the floor. He is surrounded by empty online shopping boxes. This image captures his messy, lazy personality perfectly.
“This is the story of the strongest man during his less-than-peaceful week at work.” – Official description for Narumi’s Week at Work
The short is similar to “Hoshina’s Day Off,” which came out in 2025. That special showed Vice-Captain Soshiro Hoshina away from battle. Both shorts give fans a break from serious kaiju fights.
Special Event in Tokyo on October 24, 2026
Fans in Japan can attend a live event for the short. The “Defense Force Boot Camp in Tachikawa” takes place on October 24, 2026 at Tachikawa Stage Garden in Tokyo. The main cast members will appear at this event.
Ticket lottery applications opened on May 30, 2026 through Lawson Ticket. Tachikawa City connects directly to the series, making this location meaningful for fans.
