Actress Extends Support to JPSC and JSSC Aspirants

Kunickaa Sadanand arrived at the protest site in Ranchi on August 16, where hundreds of students have been demonstrating against alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The actress spent time talking to the agitating students, listening to their concerns, and even meeting an aspirant who has been on a hunger strike for several days.

This is not the first time the actor has come out in support of student protests. She had earlier joined a demonstration at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, which was led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).

Kunickaa’s Message to the Government

Speaking to the news agency ANI, Kunickaa Sadanand delivered a clear message to the Jharkhand government. She asked the authorities to be more open and responsive toward the protesting students, stressing that the aspirants are only asking for a fair chance.

“My message is to the government: please be transparent, accountable, and listen to these children. They are asking for an opportunity, which is their right.”

The actress emphasized that the students have legitimate demands and deserve to be heard. She called for dialogue between the government and the protesters to find a solution.

Kunickaa’s Advice to Protesting Students

While supporting the students’ cause, Kunickaa also offered practical advice to the young protesters. She acknowledged that the issues they are raising have been going on for years and cannot be fixed overnight.

“My message to students is that they cannot solve an issue that has been going on for 20 years overnight. They must give the government time and take a solid promise from them in writing. Only then will this be solved.”

The actress urged the students to remain patient and allow the authorities some time to work toward a resolution. She suggested that the protesters seek a concrete assurance from the government rather than relying only on verbal commitments.

Why Are Students Protesting in Jharkhand?

The student agitation in Ranchi has reached its 24th day, with many aspirants continuing to observe a hunger strike. The protest centers around alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the JPSC and JSSC.

The students have several key demands:

  • A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the alleged irregularities
  • Cancellation of the JSSC-CGL examination
  • Action against those involved in the recruitment scam
  • The resignation of Chief Minister Hemant Soren

According to the investigating agency, the recruitment racket allegedly involved approximately ₹40 crore, and 19 people have been arrested by the CID of Jharkhand in connection with the case.

Hunger Striker’s Health Deteriorates

One of the protest leaders, Prem Nayak, who has been on a hunger strike for 13 days, spoke about his worsening health condition at the protest site.

“Today marks the 23rd day of the protest and the 13th day of the hunger strike. The government is not serious at all. I don’t think I will survive much longer; the situation is critical. The fever started yesterday.”

Nayak claimed that the government had not taken the students’ demands seriously. He said authorities tried to take him away for treatment, but he refused. Another student leader, Devendra Nath Mahto, is also on an indefinite hunger strike.

Protesters Plan to Gherao CM’s Residence

The students have announced plans to gherao (surround) Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s residence in Ranchi on August 20 if their demands are not met. They are demanding his resignation and have accused the JMM-Congress alliance of playing politics over their issues.

Nayak suggested that a ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ (fill the jails movement) could be a more effective course of action than laying siege to the Chief Minister’s residence.

Protests Spread Across Jharkhand

The agitation also spread across Jharkhand on Sunday, with protesters burning effigies of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav in all 24 districts. The protesters accused the ruling alliance of failing to take concrete action on their demands.
