The upcoming KBS drama The Husband has given viewers a closer look at the troubled marriage at the center of its story. New stills from the show capture a tense moment between leads Namkoong Min and Lee Seol, showing a couple whose relationship is already broken before a kidnapping changes everything.
The Husband is a romance thriller that follows Kang Tae Joo (Namkoong Min), a man who becomes locked in a desperate fight against a dangerous criminal after his wife is kidnapped. The kidnapping happens the day after he asks for a divorce. The show blends crime thriller elements with the emotional weight of a marriage falling apart.
A Silent Confrontation at a Hospital Banquet
The newly released stills show Kang Tae Joo and his wife Go Se Yoon (Lee Seol) locked in a silent standoff at a banquet attended by hospital officials. The two characters work together at We Together Hospital, where he serves as director and she holds the position of chairwoman.
The images capture an intense battle of nerves unfolding without a single spoken word. Despite the celebratory atmosphere of the event, the couple radiates an unmistakable chill as they face each other.
Kang Tae Joo fixes Go Se Yoon with a cold and menacing stare after she unexpectedly provokes him while casually sipping champagne. In contrast, Go Se Yoon appears determined to avoid his piercing gaze altogether. The two stand frozen as if time has stopped, exchanging nothing but fierce looks that make the precarious state of their marriage painfully clear.
“This scene is an important moment that symbolically represents the fragile state of Kang Tae Joo and Go Se Yoon’s relationship. We hope viewers will tune in to see what lies ahead for this couple, whose marital crisis is laid bare in front of numerous hospital staff members.”
The Characters and Their Complicated Relationship
Namkoong Min plays Kang Tae Joo, a neurosurgeon and director of We Are Together Hospital. He decides to divorce his wife amid a troubled marriage, only for her to be kidnapped the next day. Namkoong Min shared why he chose this role, saying the script impressed him with its fast-paced and immersive story.
“When I first read the script, I was impressed by how fast-paced and immersive the story was. It goes beyond a simple crime thriller and deeply explores a couple’s emotions and relationship, as well as the choices people make in extreme situations. I was drawn to the strength of the drama itself rather than just the character, which is why I chose the role.”
He added that Kang Tae Joo is a character who is constantly shaken and breaks down, but never gives up until the end. The character appears perfect on the surface but is never truly perfect. As he dives into danger to save his wife, he is forced to confront his own weaknesses and emotions he has long avoided.
Lee Seol plays Go Se Yoon, Kang Tae Joo’s wife and the chairwoman of We Together Hospital. Although she graduated from the same medical school as her husband, she now focuses on running the hospital. She is described as a workaholic who refuses to give up either her career or her family.
Lee Seol shared that she accepted the role because the script was gripping from start to finish. She also wanted the opportunity to work alongside Namkoong Min, an actor she deeply admires and trusts.
A Contrast Between Past and Present
The drama also explores how Kang Tae Joo and Go Se Yoon’s relationship has changed over time. Earlier stills showed the couple during their university days, when they felt excitement and affection for one another. The images showed innocent moments of a young couple in love, from first exchanging glances in the library to sharing an umbrella on a rainy day.
These scenes contrast sharply with their current cold and distant relationship. The production team noted that the memories of their happy days will make the developments following the kidnapping even more intense.
