The wait is finally over for Solo Leveling fans. The popular anime’s third season got an official confirmation on June 9, 2026, from D&C Media, the company that owns the webtoon and novel rights. The new season is set to arrive sometime between 2027 and 2028.

This news ends more than a year of silence after Season 2 finished airing in early 2025. The production committee, which includes Aniplex and A-1 Pictures, has already started working on the next chapter of Sung Jinwoo’s story.

Official Confirmation Comes From Key Stakeholder

D&C Media shared the update in its fourth-quarter financial report. The document listed “Anime Season 3 confirmed (expected 2027–2028)” as part of its investment materials. Since the company holds the rights to the original Solo Leveling IP, this serves as the most reliable confirmation fans have received so far.

Multiple hints had pointed toward this announcement in recent weeks. Crunchyroll President Rahul Purini told Radio Times that the creators were “actively working on” the next part of the anime. He added that the streaming service hoped to “announce something soon”.

At Mumbai Comic Con 2026, Solo Leveling producer Atsushi Kaneko also asked fans for patience. He confirmed through a translator that the team had “a lot of plans for the future” and was “working very hard”.

What Story Will Season 3 Cover?

The new season will likely adapt the Double Dungeon arc from the manhwa. This story section reveals the origins of Jinwoo’s powers and introduces Ashborn, the first Shadow Monarch.

Manhwa readers know that Jinwoo will face major challenges in this arc. After reaching level 100, the system invites him back to the Double Dungeon. But the visit turns into a trap set by Kandiaru, the architect who created the system. Ashborn originally planned to take over Jinwoo’s body. But he changes his mind after watching Jinwoo’s struggles and decides to make him the true successor instead.

This choice leads to Jinwoo receiving the Black Heart, a major power boost that increases his mana and healing abilities. The transformation turns him into the True Shadow Monarch, making him much stronger than before.

Sung Jinwoo’s Father Will Play a Bigger Role

Sung Il-Hwan, Jinwoo’s father, appeared briefly in the Season 2 finale on Jeju Island. The manhwa shows he knows more about the Monarchs and the coming disaster than anyone realizes.

After disappearing during a raid years ago, Il-Hwan was found alive in a Gate in America. He later escaped from the Federal Bureau of Hunters. His decision to watch the Jeju Island fight from the shadows suggests he understands the larger threat facing humanity. He told an interrogator that humans had only seen “the tip of an iceberg” when it comes to the dungeons and magic beasts.

Season 3 will likely explain what Il-Hwan has been doing all these years and how his mission connects to his son’s powers.
