Fifteen years after the first book came out, En Mikami‘s popular mystery series is finally getting a TV anime. Kadokawa announced on April 21, 2026, that The Case Files of Biblia Bookstore (also known as Biblia Koshodล no Jiken Techล) will premiere in 2027. The show comes from CloverWorks, the studio behind hit shows like The Promised Neverland and Spy x Family.
The series has sold more than 8.5 million copies since its first volume released in 2011. It has already been made into a live-action TV drama in 2013 and a movie in 2018. But fans have waited over a decade to see Shioriko and Daisuke fully animated.
The Main Voice Cast Brings Shioriko and Daisuke to Life
Riko Akechi voices Shioriko Shinokawa, the shy bookstore owner who loves old books. Shunsuke Takeuchi plays Daisuke Gลra, her tall assistant who cannot read books because they make him dizzy.
Akechi shared her deep connection to the role. She first saw the character when she was in her first year of middle school. She saw a woman’s profile through a glass bookshelf at the library entrance and never forgot it.
“I will never forget the first time I encountered Shioriko. It was when I was in my first year of middle school. I remember being captivated by the profile of a beautiful woman I saw through the glass of a rotating bookshelf filled with paperback books near the entrance of the library. Even being invited to audition felt like great fortune, so receiving the unexpected news that I had been cast was truly a life changing moment for me.”
Takeuchi, who loves old books himself, said hearing Shioriko talk about books makes him want to read again.
“I personally love old books, so hearing Shioriko speak about them makes me want to pick up a book again. With my natural physique and sincerity, I will do my best. Go, Daisuke.”
The Creative Team Behind the Anime
Mamoru Kanbe directs The Case Files of Biblia Bookstore anime at CloverWorks. He previously directed SHOSHIMIN: How to become Ordinary, Sound of the Sky, and The Perfect Insider. Ayako Kurata serves as assistant director.
Toshiya Ono, who worked with Kanbe on SHOSHIMIN and The Perfect Insider, writes the series scripts. He admitted he had heard of the book series but never read it before getting the job.
“When I was asked to write the script and read it, I felt not only nostalgia but also a sense of sadness, as if this atmosphere no longer exists anywhere. The purity, modesty, and thoughtfulness within it, along with the passion hidden beneath, inspired me to preserve it through animation.”
Jun Nakai, known for NieR:Automata Ver1.1a and Silver Spoon, designs the characters and serves as chief animation director. Takahiro Obata, who worked with Kanbe on multiple projects, composes the music.

The original author En Mikami expressed his happiness about the anime finally happening.
“For an original author, media adaptations are always something to be grateful for, and I felt honored when the series was adapted into a drama and film. I did hope to see it as a TV anime someday, but I thought it would only happen if fortune truly aligned. Now that wish has come true, I am deeply moved.”
What Fans Can Expect From the Anime
CloverWorks released a teaser visual showing Shioriko reading quietly inside the bookstore. A teaser promotional video also came out, giving fans their first look at the animation quality and character voices.
Original illustrator Hagu Koshijima shared his reaction to watching the teaser.
“Sometimes visual information evokes a sense of smell or atmosphere, and I felt the same way watching the teaser PV for the TV anime. It reminded me of my visit to Kita Kamakura for research. It was a hot day just before the rainy season began. As a viewer, I am truly excited to see the full anime.”
The novel series started under MediaWorks Bunko (KADOKAWA) and has grown into a major franchise. The books received nominations for the Japan Mystery Writers Association award twice.
