The actor, who is currently participating in Season 2 of the reality show ‘The Traitors’, spoke about what she calls her ‘Chapter 2’ and the difficulties her family endured during that time. While the world watched the investigations unfold, Rhea said her family faced consequences that went beyond the legal proceedings.

Father Offered Senior Hospital Post Then Turned Away

Rhea recounted that her father, a retired army officer and former medical corps administrator, had been offered a senior position at a hospital. He was selected for the post of medical superintendent at a major hospital in town.

“Papa got a very big job as a medical superintendent at a very big hospital in town.. and then they found out his surname and said, ‘Sorry, aap Rhea Chakraborty ke father ho toh aap yaha kaam nahi kar sakte (You are Rhea Chakraborty’s father so you cannot work here),’”

The opportunity was taken away after the institution discovered his surname and his connection to Rhea. The hospital staff told him he could not take up the job because he was Rhea Chakraborty’s father. Her father also appeared on the vlog, looking forward to the food they would cook in their new kitchen.

The 2020 Case and Its Impact on Rhea’s Family

The year 2020 brought a major change in Rhea Chakraborty’s life after the death of her former boyfriend, actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Following his death, Rhea and her brother Showik Chakraborty were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with a drug-related case tied to the investigation. She spent time in jail before being granted bail.

The actor faced intense media attention and social isolation during that period. She has previously admitted that the experience left a deep impact on her mental health, leading to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Relief came last year when the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitted a closure report in the case related to Rajput’s death, clearing Rhea’s name. She said during the vlog that she received a clean chit this year and that people now know she is innocent.

Rhea’s ‘Innocent’ Choice on ‘The Traitors’

During the conversation on ‘The Traitors’, Rhea was asked whether she would choose to be an “Innocent” or a “Traitor”. She chose “Innocent,” connecting the choice to the years she spent under suspicion.

“I want to be an innocent. Iss saal hi actually mujhe clean chit mila hain, iss saal hi logo ko pata chala hai ki mai innocent hoon. Bohot der tak shaq mein rahi hoon toh woh itna pasand nahi hai ab mujhe. Kaafi saal kar liya hai maine,”

Rhea said she had spent a long time under suspicion and did not want to experience that feeling again. She is currently participating in the second season of ‘The Traitors’, a reality show built around suspicion, strategy and deception.

A Difficult Chapter for the Chakraborty Family

The actor’s revelation shows how the 2020 case affected not just her but her entire family. Her father, a retired army officer and former medical professional, faced professional setbacks because of the media attention surrounding his daughter. Rhea has previously spoken about the effect the entire ordeal had on her mental health.

The CBI’s closure report in Sushant’s death case brought relief for Rhea as she was cleared of all charges. She has since returned to work and is now part of the second season of ‘The Traitors’.

During the vlog, a remark from co-contestant Mallika Sherawat also brought back memories of Rhea’s time in jail. Mallika made a comment about Rhea’s “comeback,” which Rhea said was far more personal and hurtful than anything Munawar Faruqui had said. Rhea maintained that Mallika’s remark was deeply personal.
