Katrina Kaif stepped out for a festive evening with her husband Vicky Kaushal at the Ambani family’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Mumbai on September 14, 2026. Within hours, photos and videos from the event turned into a flood of unkind comments about her post-pregnancy appearance, with some users even claiming she was “finished”. The wave of criticism quickly drew a response from fans, fellow actors, and quietly, from one of her former co-stars.

What Happened at the Ambani Ganesh Chaturthi Celebration

Katrina attended the celebrations at Antilia, the Mumbai residence of Mukesh and Nita Ambani, wearing a sage-green kalidar Anarkali with mirror work and a heritage dupatta. The event was a star-studded affair with guests including Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and many others. Vicky Kaushal accompanied her in a white kurta-pyjama.

The couple’s appearance was among Katrina’s first major public outings since welcoming her son, Vihaan Kaushal, on November 7, 2025. She had largely stayed away from the spotlight during her maternity break, making only limited public appearances, including at filmmaker Kuku Kohli’s funeral in late August.

Hrithik Roshan Likes Post Defending Katrina Kaif

Hrithik Roshan, who has worked with Katrina in films like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Bang Bang!, liked an Instagram post that strongly defended her against the body-shaming. While Hrithik did not comment publicly or issue a statement, the like was widely seen as a quiet but clear show of support.

The post was shared by author Harshveer Jain, who runs the Instagram page @storysellercomics. Jain’s two-slide post combined a personal reflection with a direct message to those criticising Katrina’s appearance.

The Post That Caught Hrithik Roshan’s Attention

In the first slide, Jain recalled his teenage admiration for Katrina. He wrote:

“I crushed on Katrina Kaif all my teenage. Travelled inter-state to catch a glimpse. Kept newspaper cutouts and movie posters, some even in my wallet. Watched movies because she was casted. And now when a troll says she’s finished because she put on post-pregnancy weight, I can only pity that troll.”

The second slide addressed a younger audience directly:

“She is a mother. She has a successful business. Signs of a fairly successful life, personal and professional. Your commentary on her won’t affect her. You are a nobody for her. But women around you will look at that and immediately both, be hurt and also take you for a woman hater.”

Jain’s caption added that some people simply lack empathy and do not understand that Katrina’s life is none of their business.

Other Celebrities Who Spoke Out

Several actors publicly came to Katrina’s defence in the days following the trolling.

Pakistani actor-singer Ali Zafar, who worked with Katrina in Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, shared a strong message urging men to reflect on their own attitudes. He said:

“A man was talking about my colleague with whom I previously worked in Bollywood, expressing immense discomfort over how she used to look versus how she looks now. Especially speaking as a man, I believe we need to look inward and make some essential corrections within ourselves.”

He added, “Every woman has her own life. Whatever search or struggle she is going through, whatever her past was, whatever her present and future are, that is her life. Let her live; why do you care?”

Television actor Sonarika Bhadoria, known for Devon Ke Dev…Mahadev, shared a six-slide post calling the scrutiny of new mothers “deeply cruel.” She wrote:

“This isn’t just about Katrina. It’s about every mother judged while her body is still healing. Her body grew, carried and delivered a human being. It doesn’t owe anyone an explanation for what it looks like afterwards.”

She also reminded mothers that their bodies are “not ruined” and that postpartum changes are “your story, your strength, your proof”.

Actor Shivaleeka Oberoi, who recently became a mother herself, shared a photo of Katrina and wrote, “Kya ho gaya hai (What happened) means?! This is Motherhood!” She added, “This is what normal postpartum recovery looks like – the good, the bad, the bloating, the exhaustion and everything in between. Stop glorifying a version of motherhood that doesn’t exist.”

Katrina Kaif Opens Up About Postpartum Changes

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Katrina spoke about how pregnancy changed her body and her approach to self-care. She said:

“Post-pregnancy, my skin became even more sensitive, so it was a really tricky time because I had to understand what products were working for me. I found myself looking for products that felt soothing, calming and restorative.”

She also shared how her idea of looking her best has changed over the years. “When I started out early through my modelling and acting career, there were a lot of stereotypes about what the beauty standards were. Now for me, looking my best is really about feeling my best, and that comes from taking care of myself as a whole,” she said.

Katrina described her daily routine as including a healthy diet, meditation, a phone-free hour in the morning, and getting natural light early in the day. She said these habits make a huge difference to how she feels and how her skin behaves.

A Pattern of Postpartum Body-Shaming in Bollywood

Katrina is not the first Bollywood actress to face this kind of scrutiny after becoming a mother. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan faced intense commentary about her body after the birth of her daughter Aaradhya in 2011, and the criticism continued for years, including during her appearances at the Cannes Film Festival.

The pattern has repeated with several actresses. One social media user pointed out, “The ruthless body shaming comments being made for Katrina is so pathetic and inhumane. I remember intense trolling Aishwarya had to face 14 years ago. Indian society hasn’t changed a bit.”

Fans also highlighted the biology behind postpartum changes. One user wrote, “She’s 43. She had a baby. Her body changed. That’s literally how biology works. What’s genuinely fascinating is how invested strangers are in a woman’s weight while knowing absolutely nothing about her life. Please find a hobby.”

Another pointed to Katrina’s achievements: “Has a successful 400-crore business, a wonderful partner, a beautiful baby and an iconic film career. Do you have even half of that?”

Where Katrina Kaif Stands Now

Katrina has not issued a direct statement responding to the trolling. Her focus has remained on her family and her beauty brand, Kay Beauty, which has grown into a significant business with reported annual revenues crossing ₹350 crore.

On the professional front, she was last seen in Merry Christmas (2024) alongside Vijay Sethupathi. Her team has dismissed rumours about an acting comeback, stating that claims about her exploring OTT projects are “misleading and inaccurate”. No new film projects have been officially announced since she became a mother.
