The latest episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 dropped a huge surprise that fans are still talking about. Marvel TV Boss Confirms Watcher Cameo in Daredevil Born Again Season 2 Episode 4
The hidden cameo happens near the end of the episode. After Daredevil kicks Bullseye out of a window at Fogwell’s Gym, the camera shows an outside shot of the broken window. The shattered glass and two ceiling lights create a face shape. Many fans online said it looked exactly like Uatu the Watcher.
Brad Winderbaum, who runs Marvel’s streaming, television, and animation, put an end to the guessing. He posted a screenshot of that exact moment on Instagram with the caption “Always watching.” He also tagged the official What If…? account. This was his way of saying yes, that is the Watcher watching what just happened.
This marks the first time the Watcher has appeared in a live-action Marvel show. The character, voiced by Jeffrey Wright, has only been seen in the animated What If…? series until now.
What the Watcher Appearance Means for the Show
The Watcher does not show up for no reason. His job is to watch important moments across the multiverse. He appeared right before a terrible event in X-Men ’97 as well. Fans remember seeing his shape in the sky over Genosha right before the mutant nation got destroyed.
The same thing happened here. Right after the Watcher’s face appears in the window, Vanessa Fisk gets hit by broken glass and falls to the ground. She stops moving. Her fate is not 100% clear yet. But many fans believe she is gone for good.
One fan wrote on social media: “That pattern is too spot on for that to not be intentional.” Another said: “That’s exactly how I imagined The Watcher appearing in live action.”
Vanessa Fisk Injury Changes Everything for Kingpin
Vanessa has always been the one person who kept Wilson Fisk somewhat human. She calmed his worst impulses. She gave him something to lose. Now that she is likely dead, that changes.
Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Fisk, talked about what this means for his character. He said:
“It’s going to add in a major way to his rage. And the more they do and the resistance to topple my regime, I think the more he wants to get rid of all of them, every one of them. I think what’s happened with Vanessa has rocked him in a way where he’s different than he’s ever been before. He’s not thinking completely clear. And just so you know, the effects, that doesn’t end at the end of this season.”
Matt Murdock also loses his best weapon against Fisk. For years, he used Vanessa as leverage to keep Kingpin in check. That deal is now worthless. Matt has nothing left to use against the mayor.
Bullseye Returns With a Vengeance
Wilson Bethel came back as Benjamin “Bullseye” Pointdexter in this episode. He did not hold back. The opening scene shows him taking out members of Fisk’s anti-vigilante task force at a diner. He tricked them by lying about seeing The Punisher.
Bethel wants to face The Punisher in a future episode. He told Collider:
“It would be a dream for me to get to shoot a Punisher-Bullseye sequence. Hopefully, we do get to do that someday. I think that would be f—— bananas. I think it would be so much fun.”
That showdown did not happen in this episode. But the actor has his fingers crossed for the future.
