Normal (2026) starring Bob Odenkirk is set to release in theaters on April 17, 2026. What Is Normal Movie About?

The official synopsis describes Normal as a neo-Western thriller. Sheriff Ulysses takes a temporary position in the small Minnesota town of Normal. The town seems friendly and quiet at first. But after a failed bank robbery, Ulysses discovers secrets that the townspeople have been hiding.

Director Ben Wheatley compared the film to an inverted version of the classic western High Noon. He explained that instead of the sheriff protecting the town from outside threats, the sheriff must confront the town itself.

“When I first read the script, it felt like an inverted High Noon where instead of protecting the town from outside forces, the sheriff is forced to confront the town itself. We wanted to ground the action in reality, using practical elements and a classical visual style, while telling a story that reflects the complexities of the present day.” – Ben Wheatley, Director

Bob Odenkirk described how the story builds slowly before the action starts.

“Normal starts quietly, almost like a mystery, drawing you into the lives of these characters and their tensions. Then it builds, and builds, until everything collides. It’s not just about action, it’s about the people, the humour, and the unpredictability of what unfolds.” – Bob Odenkirk, Actor and Producer

The movie runs for 90 minutes and has received an R rating for strong bloody violence and language.
