Disney D23 2026: Marvel Reveals New X-Men Cast and Frozen 3 Wedding Details

Disney held its big D23 fan event in Anaheim, California, on August 14 and 15, 2026, and made some major announcements that got fans talking. The studio revealed the full cast for the upcoming X-Men movie and shared new details about Frozen 3, including a royal wedding and a fresh villain. The event, which happens every two years, is Disney’s biggest showcase for upcoming films and television series.

Marvel Studios Announces X-Men Cast for 2028 Release

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige took the stage at the D23 Entertainment Showcase to introduce the actors who will bring the mutant superheroes to life in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The new X-Men movie is scheduled to release exclusively in theaters on May 5, 2028.

Director Jake Schreier, who previously directed Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts, joined Sadie Sink on stage to reveal the cast. Sink, who already made her debut as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, told the crowd:

“It is so wonderful to be here and to finally be able to talk about this character after months of speculation. We’re here to talk about the X-Men. Should we meet some more of the cast?”

  • Kit Connor as Scott Summers (Cyclops), the leader of the X-Men
  • Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier (Professor X)
  • Samara Weaving as Emma Frost (White Queen)
  • Inde Navarrette as Rogue (Anna Marie)
  • Maya Boyd as Storm (Ororo Munroe)
  • Adam Driver as Nathaniel Milbury (Mister Sinister), the film’s villain

All the actors joined Sadie Sink on stage except for Adam Driver, who appeared through a video call from Pinewood Studios. Driver shared his excitement about joining the MCU:

“Kevin and I have been talking for years about maybe joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And I think we finally found the perfect film at the perfect time. So I’m very excited to be playing Mag…. Nope. Even better. Nathaniel Milbury. So I’ll be right here, waiting for everybody to show up.”

Kevin Feige confirmed that more X-Men casting news is still to come as the studio introduces this first group of actors.

Frozen 3 Brings Wedding, New Villain, and New Music

Disney Animation also shared exciting updates about Frozen 3 at the D23 event. The original voice cast is returning, with Idina Menzel as Elsa, Kristen Bell as Anna, Josh Gad as Olaf, and Jonathan Groff as Kristoff.

The stars performed live on stage, with Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel singing a new version of “Frozen Heart,” while Josh Gad debuted a new song called “Ooooh, Samantha”.

The movie picks up with Anna and Kristoff finally getting married. The filmmakers teased that “this royal wedding has been a long time coming”. Frozen 3 will also introduce a new female villain whose identity and voice actor have not been revealed yet. First-look footage showed the villain wearing a cape made from sharp shards of ice.

Frozen 3 is set to arrive in theaters on November 24, 2027.

The D23 fan event featured several other big reveals across Disney’s various studios.

Avengers: Doomsday Special Look

Robert Downey Jr. took the stage as Doctor Doom as Marvel Studios introduced Avengers: Doomsday. Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell, who will return as Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter, also joined him on stage. The makers showed a special look at the film, giving the backstory of the villain Doctor Doom. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the movie follows beloved heroes from three different universes as they face an existential threat. Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026.

Incredibles 3 Coming in Summer 2028

Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter announced that Incredibles 3 will release in summer 2028. The superhero family reunites to face a powerful new villain. Docter said:

“It’s the kids turn. They’ve been sneaking out at night to protect the city.”

Coco 2 Set for November 2029

Docter also shared details about Coco 2, which takes place several years after the original 2017 film. Protagonist Miguel is now a teenager. Benjamin Bratt, who voices antagonist Ernesto de la Cruz, appeared on stage and said:

“Ernesto de la Cruz is out for revenge, taking Miguel back to the land of the dead.”

The film is scheduled for a November 2029 release.
