Brad Pitt is back as Cliff Booth, and this time Hollywood needs a different kind of hero. The first full trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth arrived on September 21, 2026, showing Pitt’s Oscar-winning stuntman turned “fixer” navigating a crime-filled Los Angeles in 1977. Directed by David Fincher from a screenplay by Quentin Tarantino, the film is set to open in IMAX theatres globally on November 25, 2026, before streaming on Netflix on December 23, 2026.
What Happens in the First Trailer
The trailer opens with a character telling someone about the famous fight from the first film: “You hear the story about Bruce Lee getting his a** kicked by a stuntman? This is the guy!” The footage then moves into Cliff Booth’s new life. He works as a bartender and a movie projectionist, but his real job is being a fixer for Hollywood’s elite.
A key moment in the trailer comes when Elizabeth Debicki’s character, talent agent Karen Crosby, asks Booth about his years working with Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton. “You worked with Rick Dalton for a number of years. What brought an end to your engagement?” she asks. Booth’s reply: “Oh, Rick got too fat for me to double him anymore.”
The trailer also shows Booth hiding what looks like a dead body in the trunk of his car, armed hitmen, bags of cash, and a demolition derby scene, all set to Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll.”
The Story: From Stuntman to Fixer
The film is set eight years after the events of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which took place in 1969. The official synopsis from Netflix describes the new setting: “Murder, blackmail, theft, extortion — just another summer in Hollywood. It’s 1977, eight years since Cliff Booth encountered the Manson family.”
“Los Angeles no longer needs a hippie-slaying stuntman the way it did. But Hollywood will always have problems, problems that can only be solved by someone with Cliff’s unique (occasionally extralegal) abilities,” the synopsis continues.
When he is not bartending or running a projector, Booth works as a fixer, solving problems for Hollywood’s famous and not-so-famous people. The story begins when he gets a call from talent agent Karen Crosby (Elizabeth Debicki), who represents TV star Charlie Peters (Scott Caan), a man known for doing his own stunts.
Booth then meets other people in Charlie’s world, including Charlie’s wife Toni (Carla Gugino) and former football champion turned actor Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). The Verdusco brothers (Matt Groove and JB Tadena), described as mysterious gangsters, also cause problems across the city.

Brad Pitt leads the cast, returning to the role that won him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor at the 2020 Oscars. Leonardo DiCaprio is not returning as Rick Dalton, keeping the focus on Pitt’s character.

How Tarantino Handed the Film to Fincher
Quentin Tarantino wrote the screenplay himself but decided not to direct. He explained his reason on “The Church of Tarantino” podcast: “I love this script, but I’m still walking down the same ground I’ve already walked. It just kind of unenthused me. This last movie, I’ve got to not know what I’m doing again. I’ve got to be in uncharted territory.”
Tarantino has said his 10th film will be his last, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was his ninth. He still serves as a producer on the new film alongside Pitt, David Heyman, Ceán Chaffin, and Stacey Sher.
Brad Pitt showed the script to David Fincher, who agreed to direct. This marks the first time Pitt and Fincher have worked together since The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in 2008. They previously worked together on Se7en and Fight Club.
Tarantino spoke highly of Fincher: “I think me and David Fincher are the two best directors. So the idea that David Fincher actually wants to adapt my work, to me, shows a level of seriousness towards my work that I think needs to be taken into account.”
Budget and Production Details
The film was made on a reported budget of $200 million, which would make it the most expensive film either Tarantino or Fincher has ever written or directed. The production wrapped a seven-month shoot in Los Angeles in January 2026.
Pitt and Ceán Chaffin are producing. The creative team includes several of Fincher’s longtime collaborators: Erik Messerschmidt as director of photography, Donald Graham Burt as production designer, Kirk Baxter as editor, Laray Mayfield for casting, Trish Summerville as costume designer, Ren Klyce as sound designer, and Dave Macomber as stunt coordinator.

Release Dates for IMAX and Netflix Worldwide
The film will have a two-week exclusive run in IMAX theatres globally starting November 25, 2026. This marks the first Netflix film to get a full IMAX theatrical release worldwide.
Netflix will begin streaming the film on December 23, 2026, in all regions where the platform operates, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, and other global markets. The IMAX release will be available in major cities across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Audiences who do not have access to an IMAX theatre near them will be able to watch the film on Netflix from December 23 onward.
The film was originally set to be replaced in its release slot by Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, but Netflix pushed that film to February 2027 instead, giving the Cliff Booth film a wide IMAX launch.
