Dan Levyโ€˜s new Netflix comedy Big Mistakes dropped on April 9, 2026, and viewers are already asking for more. The eight-episode first season ended with a huge twist that sets up plenty of story for another round. While Netflix has not officially said yes to a second season, Levy has made it clear he knows exactly where the story needs to go next.

The show follows siblings Nicky (Dan Levy) and Morgan (Taylor Ortega), two regular people who accidentally get pulled into organized crime after stealing a necklace. What starts as one bad choice turns into a dangerous mess. The season finale revealed that Morganโ€˜s future mother-in-law Annette (Elizabeth Perkins) is actually the crime boss controlling everything from behind the scenes.

Dan Levy Has a Multi-Season Plan Ready

The Schittโ€™s Creek creator is not waiting around for permission to think about the future. He already knows how the whole story ends.

โ€œI know how the entire show ends,โ€ Levy told People magazine at the New York City premiere. โ€œYou gotta know what youโ€˜re playing with before you pitch it to somebody.โ€

Levy hopes to keep telling this story for many years. He described making the show as a โ€œreally, really special experienceโ€ and said he wants โ€œto tell this story for seasons and seasons and seasons.โ€

The actor also shared with TV Insider that most of a second season is already mapped out in his head.

โ€œOh, I know exactly what I want to see in the second season of the show. A lot of the show is written in my head at this point. All I know is that if we are given the opportunity to tell a second season, itโ€˜s going to be bigger and better, and I canโ€™t wait to get back to the writerโ€˜s room because we have a big old story to tell.โ€

What Could Happen in Big Mistakes Season 2

The first season ends with a game-changing reveal. Annette is not just a rich future mother-in-law. She runs the entire criminal operation that has been terrorizing Nicky and Morgan throughout the season.

Levy explained to Variety what a second season would look like.

โ€œA season two would just be: Thereโ€™s no way out now.โ€

The siblings have seen too much and gotten involved in too many criminal activities. Walking away is no longer an option. Morgan is engaged to Annetteโ€™s son Max (Jack Innanen), which makes the situation even more complicated. Annette needs to keep her son happy, and Morgan is a big part of that. But that relationship also traps Morgan in a family she cannot escape.

Levy told Variety that Annette has a weak point in her son. โ€œShe needs to keep him happy. Morgan and their dynamic, their relationship, is a great way of keeping her son happy. She canโ€˜t mess that up. And also โ€” Nicky and Morgan know too much now. So even if they wanted to leave, they have a lot to answer for.โ€

The Showโ€™s First Season Left Many Questions Unanswered

Big Mistakes follows Nicky, a New Jersey pastor, and his sister Morgan, a school teacher. They steal a diamond necklace for their dying grandmother and accidentally get caught up with a crime syndicate. The eight episodes mix comedy with real danger as the siblings make worse and worse choices.

The show has a strong cast including Laurie Metcalf, Boran Kuzum, Abby Quinn, and Jacob Gutierrez. Rachel Sennott, who co-created the series with Levy, also serves as an executive producer.

Levy spent six months writing the show with Sennott over Zoom. They wrote the pilot in just one day after meeting up for five days of planning. The creator said he pulled together 20 pages of research for the crime elements, and the crime expert they worked with even asked him if he had experience in organized crime.

Viewership Numbers and Renewal Chances

Early numbers show the series got around 2.7 million views and over 12 million viewing hours in its opening days. The show made it onto Netflixโ€˜s global Top 10 charts, though at a lower rank compared to some other releases.

Renewal decisions on Netflix often depend on how many people finish the season and how well the show keeps viewers watching over time. The platform usually waits several weeks before announcing renewals for new shows.

The show remains on Netflixโ€™s most-watched list as of mid-April, which helps its chances. Levyโ€˜s track record with Schittโ€™s Creekโ€”which ran for six seasons and won multiple Emmysโ€”also works in his favor. That show started slowly but grew into a massive hit over time.

Cast Would Likely Return for More Episodes

If Netflix gives the green light, the main cast is expected to return. Dan Levy would be back as Nicky, Taylor Ortega as Morgan, Elizabeth Perkins as Annette, and Jack Innanen as Max. Laurie Metcalf, who plays a key role in the family drama, would also likely return.

Levy has spoken warmly about working with this cast. โ€œI love these people so much,โ€œ he told People. โ€Iโ€˜m so proud of this cast and crew. People are working at, like, 110%. All I did was set the table for these people, and they ate.โ€

The creator also shared that making Big Mistakes helped him stop worrying so much about what critics would say. โ€œThis is one of the few times where I feel so at peace with what we all made,โ€ he told Interview magazine. โ€œI feel so excited about [Big Mistakes] that I really havenโ€˜t thought twice about what happens once something is out.โ€

Big Mistakes is streaming now on Netflix in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India, and other regions.
