Chris Pratt returns as Navy SEAL James Reece in the first full trailer for The Terminal List Season 2, which sees his character pulled back into action for a high-stakes international mission. Prime Video will release all eight episodes on October 21, 2026, nearly four years after the first season became a global hit.
A New Mission with a Deadly Offer
The new trailer, released by Prime Video on September 17, 2026, shows James Reece living in isolation on a boat in the middle of the ocean, still a fugitive after the events of Season 1. His quiet exile is interrupted when Freddy Strain, a former SEAL now working with the CIA, approaches him with a deal.
The offer is simple: a full presidential pardon in exchange for helping the government with a dangerous mission. The trailer makes it clear that the stakes are much higher this time. A voice can be heard saying:
“Let’s finish the list. Let’s finish the list. You’re dying, James.”
This line references the brain tumor that Reece has been battling since Season 1. His failing health is a central part of the new season, with another character warning him not to take chances just because he has “one foot in the grave”. Reece, however, sees his lack of fear as an advantage. He insists that having one foot in the grave is “exactly what we need” for the mission.
From Revenge Thriller to Global Espionage
Season 2 is based on Jack Carr‘s second novel, True Believer. The story moves away from the personal revenge mission of Season 1 and expands into a globe-trotting espionage thriller. Reece will travel across the Indian Ocean, through parts of Africa and the Middle East, and into Europe.
The central mystery involves a conspiracy that stretches from Moscow to Langley and ties into Reece’s own family history. The trailer teases terrorist attacks in London and a mission to find a mole within the intelligence community. This new direction puts Reece in the middle of a much larger fight, one that involves international intelligence operations and threats to global order.
Chris Pratt on the Show’s Meaning
Chris Pratt, who returns as both the star and an executive producer, has spoken about what this season means to him. In a statement, he described the new chapter as a tribute to the people who serve in special operations.
“This season is a love letter to the special operations community,” Pratt said. “I’m incredibly proud of the journey we went on and what we were able to put on screen. It was a monumental effort by a lot of people over the course of many years, and I think you can feel that commitment in every frame.”
He also spoke about the return of Taylor Kitsch as Ben Edwards, Reece’s former friend whom he killed in the Season 1 finale. Edwards appears in the trailer as a hallucination, a product of Reece’s troubled mind and his guilt over the past.
“People have to understand that ghosts or dead characters can appear in the narrative,” Pratt told USA TODAY. “So we’re dealing with a guy in Reece who’s literally having hallucinations and conflations. We’re tiptoeing to where it’s essentially memories from his life are crossing over to the present moment.”
A Cast of Returning Favorites and New Faces
The new season brings back several key cast members from Season 1. Tom Hopper returns as Raife Hastings, Constance Wu as Katie Buranek, Dar Salim as Mohammed Farooq, and Luke Hemsworth as Jules Landry.
Gabriel Luna joins the cast as Freddy Strain, the CIA officer who offers Reece his freedom. Strain is described as a former SEAL Team 6 Senior Chief who now works with the CIA’s Ground Branch. The season also adds an expanded international cast, including Costa Ronin, Olga Kurylenko, Yul Vazquez, Martin Sensmeier, Arnold Vosloo, and Shiraz Tzarfati.
A Franchise with a Massive Audience
The Terminal List has become one of Prime Video’s biggest hits. Since its debut in 2022, the franchise has accumulated more than 100 million viewers worldwide. The success of the first season led to a prequel series, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, which focuses on the origin story of Ben Edwards and premiered on Prime Video in 2025.
The new season continues the franchise’s commitment to authenticity. Executive producers Jared Shaw, a former Navy SEAL, and Max Adams, a former Army Ranger, oversee the action and technical work, with military veterans contributing as writers and advisors.
