Award-winning short film Bhed, Bakri, Bhoot is arriving on a new streaming platform this week. Presented by acclaimed filmmakers Abhishek Chaubey and Navdeep Singh, the film will premiere globally on September 24, 2026, at midnight on Anurag Kashyap’s curated YouTube channel, Oh Short Flips. Directed by Shivam Shankar, the 29-minute Hindi short has already made waves on the international festival circuit, picking up multiple awards before its online release. The film stars Vandana Joshi, Prasanna Bisht, Apeksha Iyer, Naseem Mughal, and Rishi Solanki.
What Bhed, Bakri, Bhoot Is About
The film opens with a simple but charged moment. A heartbroken brass-band musician writes a bitter message about his former lover on the wall of a public bathroom. That private act of anger does not stay private for long. Strangers from different walks of life begin adding their own complaints, political frustrations, and personal grudges to the same wall. The graffiti keeps growing. The voices pile up. Nobody notices that the bathroom itself is falling apart until government officials finally arrive on the scene. The film uses this setting to look at how public anger and blame can drown out any sense of shared responsibility.
Who Is Behind the Film
Shivam Shankar wrote, directed, and produced the short alongside Ranjan Singh and RG, with Mann Gera also credited as a producer. Shankar studied film direction at AAFT and previously wrote for the Netflix series Saare Jahan Se Accha: The Silent Guardians. Presenter Abhishek Chaubey, known for Udta Punjab and Sonchiriya, said the film’s tone stood out to him immediately.
“What I loved most about BBB is Shivam’s modern approach to the narrative and the fact that it is so enjoyable, yet so disturbing. I am sure the audience will also like the film as much as I did.”
Navdeep Singh, the director behind NH10 and Manorama Six Feet Under, also praised the short’s sharp point of view.
“Bhed, Bakri, Bhoot is acutely observed, astutely directed, and insanely relevant to the times we find ourselves in. It’s a wonderful short film that’s both intelligent and wickedly entertaining.”
Shankar described the film as a direct look at everyday life in India. “The film is my attempt to look at India without any filters, the everyday politics we live through in society, told through a raw, unguarded gaze,” he said.
Festival Wins and Screenings
Before reaching YouTube, Bhed, Bakri, Bhoot traveled to several international festivals. It screened at the 29th International Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, IFFSA Toronto, Tirana International Film Festival, Roma Short Film Festival, Tokyo International Short Film Festival, Yellowstone International Film Festival, and the Best of India Short Film Festival.
The film’s award list includes second Best Film at IDSFFK, Best Editing at the Tokyo International Short Film Festival, Best Short Film at IFFSA Toronto, and Best Indian Short Film at Yellowstone International Film Festival.
