The JTBC romance drama Still Shining aired its last episodes on April 3, 2026, bringing the emotional story of Yeon Tae-Seo (Park Jinyoung) and Mo Eun-A (Kim Min Ju) to a close. The series followed two young people who grew up together, broke apart, and spent ten years trying to find their way back. The final episodes delivered a bittersweet finish that left many viewers thinking about love, loss, and the choices we make.
Eun-A Decides To Leave Korea For Good
In the final episodes, Eun-A faces a life-changing decision. Park So-Hyeon, her biological mother, visits her at the guesthouse in Tongyeong where Eun-A has been working on renovations. The two share a quiet meal together, and So-Hyeon opens up about her own mother who is dying in Hawaii. She asks Eun-A to come with her.
At first, Eun-A does not give an answer. But the next day while dropping So-Hyeon at the bus stop, she changes her mind. She tells So-Hyeon she has nothing left in Korea and will go to Hawaii with her. This decision mirrors what happened ten years ago when Eun-A left for Hawaii after their first breakup. But this time, she is making the choice with a clearer understanding of herself.
Before leaving, Eun-A wants to see Tae-Seo one last time. She waits by the road where they used to bike together in Yeonwoo. He shows up after visiting his grandmother in the hospital. They stand looking at each other without speaking until his friends arrive and take him away.
Tae-Seo Opens Up About His True Feelings
Tae-Seo spends much of the final episodes struggling with his emotions. He broke things off with Eun-A again, but he cannot accept his own decision. His grandmother remains in the hospital, adding to his worries.
Im A-Sol (Park Se-Hyun), a woman who has liked Tae-Seo for over ten years, asks him for something unusual. She wants him to go through a pretend breakup with her since she has never experienced one. She believes a warm goodbye with him will help her move on. Tae-Seo agrees, even though they never dated.
On the night of their planned pretend breakup, A-Sol dresses up and waits for him. But Tae-Seo has forgotten because he just learned that Eun-A is leaving for Hawaii with her mother. When A-Sol insists they continue, Tae-Seo cannot hold back his tears. He walks away from her and turns his back, crying. A-Sol follows him and grabs the back of his sweater, asking if they can pretend to date instead.
“Let’s date for real,” A-Sol says before changing her words to “maybe just until Christmas.”
Tae-Seo finally agrees, but his heart remains with Eun-A. Later, A-Sol finds a drawer in his apartment filled with items that remind him of Eun-A. She realizes she will never be his first choice. When her father has a health scare, she gains perspective and decides to end things with Tae-Seo for real.
The Final Goodbye Between Eun-A And Tae-Seo
Eun-A and Tae-Seo finally have a real conversation at their old school, the place where they first met as teenagers. She tells him she is going to Hawaii to live with So-Hyeon. She has a job waiting for her at a hotel, thanks to an old friend who works there.
Tae-Seo listens without looking directly at her. He asks if she will smile the way she did in an old photo from Hawaii. Eun-A says she does not like that younger version of herself who did not know the pain coming her way. But Tae-Seo tells her, “I like her”.
They ride their bikes until they reach a fork in the road where they always used to separate. This time, they go different ways, and Eun-A looks back at him. He does not turn around.
Later, Tae-Seo calls her. He asks if she had any trouble with Seong-Chan after he left the guesthouse that night. Eun-A starts crying and tells him he does not need to worry about her. Tae-Seo explains that he feels she always has to leave places to avoid feeling trapped. She seems to understand what he is saying about her.
“We missed each other. We’re good at that,” Eun-A says during their phone call.
On the day Eun-A leaves for the airport, Tae-Seo decides to see her off in person. He rides the bus and then the train with her, sitting across from her in silence. He sends her a text message saying he wants her to have a great life. He adds that if she ever thinks about a future with him in it, she should let him know. At the airport, they share a long hug, and he tells her he loves her.
What Happens One Year Later
The finale jumps forward one year. Tae-Seo finally gets his dream job as a long-distance train operator after failing the first interview. He receives photos from Eun-A in Hawaii, and she looks genuinely happy. He goes back to her old guesthouse in Yeonwoo, cleans it up, and puts her nameplate back on the wall.

The show ends without saying whether they reunite. The possibility remains open, but neither character had to give up who they are to reach that point. Park Jinyoung spoke about the ending before it aired, saying he hoped viewers would think about what makes a good ending in relationships. Kim Min Ju added that she wanted people to see her character’s growth as she finally faced emotions she had delayed for years.
Viewer Reactions To The Finale
The finale received mixed responses from viewers. The drama ended with very low ratings, with the final episode scoring 0.77 percent nationwide. Some viewers found the slow pace and the couple’s repeated breakups frustrating to watch. Others appreciated the realistic approach to love and the idea that two people can care for each other deeply without ending up together.
One viewer review on MyDramaList noted that Park Jinyoung’s performance as Yeon Tae-Seo was the best part of the series, especially in scenes with his family. The same review mentioned that the show lost interest as the episodes went on because of the couple’s inability to communicate clearly.
The drama also faced criticism earlier in its run when some scenes were seen as possibly encouraging drunk driving, leading to complaints filed with broadcasting review boards.
