The final season of The Boys on Prime Video is shaping up to be its darkest and most explosive yet. Actor Karl Urban, who plays the relentless Billy Butcher, has given fans a chilling preview, warning that the show will hold nothing back. Newly released posters and recent comments from the cast confirm that the battle between Butcher and Homelander is set to escalate into an all-out war with catastrophic stakes and no character safe from harm.
A Warning from Billy Butcher: “Anybody’s Fair Game”
Speaking at a fan event, Karl Urban set the tone for the final chapter. He explained that the season will pull viewers into the deep end immediately, with the emotional stakes at their highest point.
โI think we throw you in the deep endโฆ thereโs going to be some big hits early on in the very first episode. Thatโs probably what is going to make you realize, โOh, this s**t is for real.โ The stakes couldnโt be higher, and anybodyโs fair game.โ
This statement strongly hints at major character deaths occurring as early as the season five premiere. Urban’s warning makes it clear that the familiar “plot armor” that has protected certain characters is being stripped away for the final run. The goal is to make audiences understand that in this concluding war, no one’s survival is guaranteed.
First-Look Posters Hint at a “Scorched Earth” Finale
Prime Video released two striking posters in early December 2025, visually defining the season’s conflict. One poster features Homelander hovering menacingly above a burning planet Earth, with explosions dotting the landscape below. This image, tagged “Shock and awe. Blood and bone,” suggests Homelander’s reign of terror has expanded far beyond the United States.
The companion poster shows Billy Butcher standing defiantly in the ruins of what appears to be Vought Tower, under the words “Scorched earth”. This directly speaks to Butcher’s mindset going into the final season; he is done with half-measures and is prepared to burn everything down to achieve his goal of destroying Homelander.
Fans have speculated that the specific targets of the explosions on Homelander’s poster could be the state of Iowa. This is the home state of Annie January, also known as Starlight, suggesting Homelander might target her past to inflict maximum psychological pain.
How Season Four Set the Stage for Total War
The shocking finale of season four completely reshaped the world of The Boys. Homelander, with the cunning help of Sister Sage, has effectively seized control, making him the most powerful figure in the nation despite not holding the official title of president. His forces have rounded up most of his known enemies, leaving only a scattered few to resist.
Billy Butcher, however, is more dangerous than ever. After killing Victoria Neuman, he has been abandoned by his own team and is now operating alone. Critically, he is in possession of a virus that is lethal to Supes, a weapon first introduced in the spin-off series Gen V. Showrunner Eric Kripke has framed Butcher’s final arc around a central, brutal question: does he have to become a complete monster to defeat the ultimate monster, Homelander?
The season will also integrate characters and events from Gen V. The story is set to begin about six months after the events of Gen V’s second season, with several characters from Godolkin University expected to join Starlight’s growing resistance movement.
Returning Faces and New Cameos in the Final Fight
The ensemble cast for the final season includes the return of Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy. Showrunner Eric Kripke has confirmed that Soldier Boy will be a significant presence, allowing the story to explore the unresolved and complex father-son dynamic between him and Homelander. Furthermore, Soldier Boy is driven by a desire for revenge against Butcher for betraying him in season three.
The season will also feature a notable Supernatural reunion, a nod to Kripke’s previous series. Alongside Ackles, actors Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins are confirmed to appear in season five. Karl Urban also hinted at additional surprise cameos that have yet to be officially announced.
The main cast returning for the final showdown includes Jack Quaid as Hughie, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, Antony Starr as Homelander, Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko, and Tomer Capone as Frenchie, among many others.
Which Characters Are in the Most Danger?
With Karl Urban’s warning that “anybody’s fair game,” speculation is rampant about who might not survive the premiere episode. Several characters are considered to be at high risk based on their current story positions.
Newer members of The Seven, like Firecracker (Valorie Curry), are seen as vulnerable due to their limited usefulness to Homelander and their status as potential targets for Butcher’s rage. Sister Sage (Susan Heyward), despite her intelligence, may have fallen out of Homelander’s favor after her secret dealings were exposed. Longtime supporting characters such as Frenchie (Tomer Capone) are also in peril, as their potential death would deliver a powerful emotional impact early in the season.
Additionally, characters crossing over from Gen V, like Polarity, could be used by Homelander to make a brutal example for the public.

The Road to the 2026 Premiere
The Boys Season 5 is confirmed to premiere on Prime Video in 2026. While an exact date has not been set, the release of the first posters and the cast’s appearance at the CCXP fan convention in Brazil in early December 2025 suggest that more news, including a possible teaser trailer, is imminent.
Filming for the final season was completed in mid-2025. Showrunner Eric Kripke has stated that post-production work, including visual effects and music, is progressing well. He promised that the series will “go out with a bang”. This final season is officially designated as the conclusion of the main The Boys series, a plan Kripke says has been in place for years.
