Prime Video’s hit action series Reacher is returning for a fourth season. The show, starring Alan Ritchson as the tough former military police officer, will premiere on August 12, 2026. The new season brings a fresh mystery, a new city setting, and a long list of new cast members.
The streaming platform confirmed the release date on June 30, 2026. The season will have eight episodes in total. The first three episodes will drop together on the premiere day. After that, one new episode will arrive every Wednesday. The season will end on September 16, 2026.
The Story Behind Season 4
Season 4 is based on the 13th book in Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series, called Gone Tomorrow. The official description from Amazon MGM Studios says the season starts when Reacher has a chance meeting with a troubled stranger on a subway. This meeting goes very wrong and pulls Reacher into a dangerous game against powerful enemies.
In the book, Reacher gets on a New York City subway late at night. He notices a woman whose body language makes him think she might be a suicide bomber. Reacher tries to help her, but the woman shoots herself before he can stop her. The police call it a suicide, but Reacher does not believe them. He starts his own investigation to find out who the woman really was and why she died.
Alan Ritchson has called this season the best one yet. In a March 2026 interview, he said production had finished and the season would come out in 2026. He also mentioned that the new season would have around 30 fight scenes across its eight episodes.
A Big Change from the Book
The show is making one major change from the source material. The story will no longer take place in New York City. Instead, the action moves to Philadelphia. The first episode title, “City of Brotherly Love,” is a direct reference to Philadelphia’s nickname.
This is not the first time the show has changed locations from the books. Season 3 also moved its setting away from the original book’s location. The showrunners likely made this change to give the series a fresh visual feel and to separate it from the book’s specific New York setting.

The episode titles give some hints about the story. “Cage Fight” suggests a physical confrontation. “Plum Out of Luck” likely refers to a character named Russell Plum, played by Kevin Weisman. “Vote for Sampson” points to characters named John and Elsbeth Sampson, played by Marc Blucas and Kathleen Robertson.
The Cast of Season 4
Alan Ritchson returns as Jack Reacher. Maria Sten is also expected to return as Frances Neagley before starring in her own spin-off series.

The Neagley Spin-Off
Prime Video is expanding the Reacher universe with a spin-off series focused on Frances Neagley. The show is simply called Neagley and stars Maria Sten in the lead role.
The spin-off will premiere on September 16, 2026, the same day as the Reacher Season 4 finale. All eight episodes of Neagley will be available at once. This is different from Reacher’s weekly release schedule.
The story follows Neagley, a private investigator in Chicago and a former military colleague of Reacher. She learns that a friend from her past died in a suspicious accident and becomes determined to find the truth. Alan Ritchson will make a guest appearance as Jack Reacher in the spin-off.
The cast of Neagley includes Greyston Holt as Detective Hudson Riley, Adeline Rudolph as Renee Birdwhistle, Jasper Jones as Keno, Matthew Del Negro as Pierce Woodrow, and Damon Herriman as Lawrence Cole.
Early Renewal for Season 5
Prime Video has already renewed Reacher for a fifth season. The renewal came before Season 4 even premiered. The streaming service pointed to the show’s continued success and global appeal as the reason for the early renewal.
Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, said the show has become a true powerhouse franchise. He noted that the series connects with tens of millions of viewers around the world.
Production on Season 4 wrapped in March 2026. Filming began in June 2025 and finished in November 2025. The show is now in post-production and ready for its August release.

Season 4 puts Reacher back in a city setting after Season 3 took place mostly outside Portland, Maine. The subway incident at the start of the season sets up a mystery that will keep viewers guessing.
