Pakistani singer Mustafa Zahid, who gave voice to the iconic track “Tera Mera Rishta” in the 2007 film Awarapan, is reportedly in discussions with the makers of Awarapan 2 to record a new version of the song. This potential collaboration comes at a time when the Indian film industry has maintained a strict stance against working with Pakistani artists following the 2016 Uri terror attack and the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack. The news has created significant buzz just days before the sequel’s theatrical release.
Mustafa Zahid and Awarapan 2 Makers in Active Discussions
According to a report by Mid-day, Mustafa Zahid is in talks with producers Mukesh Bhatt and Vishesh Bhatt to recreate the beloved track for the upcoming sequel. The original song became one of the most memorable tracks from Emraan Hashmi’s cult classic and continues to hold a special place in the hearts of music lovers nearly two decades after its release.
The development has surprised many industry observers because the Hindi film industry has largely stayed away from collaborating with Pakistani artists since the 2016 Uri attack. Film bodies reiterated their stance after the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, making cross-border artistic collaborations extremely rare in recent years.
A source close to the development shared details about the plan with Mid-day:
“Should the deal materialise, it will mark one of the rare instances in recent years of a Pakistani playback singer recording for a mainstream Hindi film. The song won’t be used in Awarapan 2 as that may land the film in certification trouble. So, the makers are considering bypassing its theatrical use; it will be used only in social media-led promotions. The professional reunion is awaiting approval from both parties at this stage.”
If both sides reach an agreement, the recording is expected to take place in Dubai. Neither Mustafa Zahid nor the filmmakers have officially confirmed the reported collaboration so far.
New Version of Tera Mera Rishta Already Released for the Film
The makers of Awarapan 2 have already released a reimagined version of “Tera Mera Rishta” titled “Tera Mera Rishta Continues (Film Ballad)”. The new track retains the emotional essence of the original while introducing fresh lyrics that reflect Shivam Pandit’s journey in the sequel.
The recreated version has been composed by Mithoon, Mustafa Zahid and Pritam, with lyrics by Sayeed Quadri. Saaj Bhatt and Subodhh Sharma have lent their voices to the song. The track plays throughout the film’s trailer, adding an emotional touch to the action-packed visuals.
Awarapan 2 Trailer Released Ahead of August 14 Release
The official trailer of Awarapan 2 dropped on August 6, 2026, bringing back Emraan Hashmi as Shivam Pandit nearly 19 years after the original film. The trailer has received a positive response from audiences, with fans praising Hashmi’s return and calling it a nostalgic comeback.
The sequel presents a darker, vengeance-driven chapter for Shivam Pandit, with themes of revenge, redemption and unfinished battles. Disha Patani joins the franchise as Zara, while veteran actor Shabana Azmi plays the main antagonist Nafisa.
The supporting cast includes Puran Gabbi as Zorawar, Anirudh Rawal as Sikandar, Surendar Vicky as Jaideep, Vijayant Kohli as Mehmood, and Atul Kumar as Samarth.
Music Remains Central to the Awarapan Franchise
Music has always been a defining part of the Awarapan universe, and the sequel continues that tradition. The soundtrack has been composed by Mithoon, Jeet Gannguli, Amaal Malik, Ankit Sachdev and Wasif Ahmad, with lyrics by Sayeed Qadri, Rashmi Virag, Akhil Sachdeva and Sachin Singh Chandel.
Songs such as “Ve Junoon,” “Yeh Awarapan” and “Toh Phir Aao” have already been released, with more tracks expected soon. The trailer features a recreated version of “Tera Mera Rishta” composed by Mithoon and sung by Saaj Bhatt and Subodhh Sharma. Original lyricist Sayeed Qadri has returned to write the new version alongside Mithoon.
Pakistani Artists Ban and Recent Exceptions
Following the Uri attack in 2016, many film bodies in India decided to ban Pakistani artists from working in Indian movies. However, in 2023, the Bombay High Court dismissed a petition that sought a complete legal ban on artists from Pakistan working in Indian films.
Last year, two films featured Pakistani actors – Sardaar Ji 3 featured Hania Aamir, and Aabeer Gulaal featured Fawad Khan. These projects marked rare exceptions to the ongoing restrictions.
