Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor shared a memorable story from the sets of their 1994 cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna during a recent episode of India’s Best Dancer Season 5. The two actresses revealed how a simple question, “Juice piyegi?” (Will you have juice?), helped them break the ice during an overnight shoot. The moment came after a prank left them tied to a pillar together for hours, forcing them to finally start talking after days of silence.

Juice Piyegi – The Question That Changed Everything

Raveena Tandon appeared as a special guest on India’s Best Dancer Season 5, where Karisma Kapoor serves as a judge. Host Harssh Limbachiyaa asked the two actresses whether they used to laugh while shooting Andaz Apna Apna. Raveena said they were “always laughing” and recalled a scene involving a kidnapper’s phone call where Aamir Khan is on the phone while she could be seen laughing on the side.

The conversation then turned to a more personal memory. Raveena described how she and Karisma were not on talking terms during the film’s production. The four lead actors, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, and Raveena Tandon, often were not speaking to one another despite working together on the same film.

“We had a scene where we were tied to a pillar, back to back, the whole night from 9 PM to 5 AM. So it was dinner break, we were tied up, it was night time and we were tired,” Raveena recalled.

The male members of the cast and crew decided to play a prank on the two actresses during the dinner break. They left Raveena and Karisma tied to the pillar while everyone else moved away from the floor. Raveena remembered repeatedly asking to be untied before the others eventually cleared the floor, leaving the two actresses alone.

“Juice piyegi? You want juice?” Raveena finally asked Karisma.

Karisma replied that she was hungry and wanted some juice. That simple exchange got the two talking and helped break the ice between them.

Why Raveena and Karisma Were Tied to a Pillar

The scene in question was part of the film’s climax, where both actresses were tied to a pillar. Director Rajkumar Santoshi saw this as the perfect opportunity to get them to talk. According to Priti Sinha, daughter of the late producer Vinay Sinha, Santoshi refused to let anyone untie them during the dinner break.

“They were tied together for the climax. When the dinner break started, someone said, ‘Untie them.’ Raj ji said, ‘No one will untie them. First, ask them to sort it out among themselves and start talking to each other. Because itna masti ka mahaul hai (it’s a set full of joy), just these two are not talking to each other,’” Priti shared in an interview with Radio Nasha.

Her sister Namrata added that the two actresses were simply not on talking terms, a situation that she described as common between actors. Priti noted that they eventually sorted it out and shook hands, pointing out that everyone involved was very young at the time.

The On-Set Tension That Sparked the Cold War

Reports of tension between Raveena Tandon and Karisma Kapoor during the making of Andaz Apna Apna have been part of Bollywood folklore for decades. Gossip magazines in the 1990s claimed the cold war even turned physical, with some reports suggesting the actresses pulled each other’s hair.

The family of producer Vinay Sinha, however, strongly denied those claims. “No no, not at all. Aisa kuchh nahi tha (that wasn’t the case),” said Namrata. She explained that the actresses were not on talking terms because such things happen between all actors.

Raveena Tandon herself confirmed in an earlier interview that she and Karisma were not talking during the shoot. She said the director and others tried to bring them together, and the climax scene became the turning point.

Karisma Kapoor Remembers Ye Raat Aur Ye Doori

During the same episode of India’s Best Dancer Season 5, Karisma Kapoor spoke about shooting the song “Ye Raat Aur Ye Doori”, which was filmed at Mehboob Studio. The song was among the first sequences where all four lead actors came together.

“All 4 of us were quite new in the industry, and we were all so nervous at that time, shooting with Raj ji. It was so much fun to do that comedy song, but a song like this is tough, it’s not easy,” Karisma said.

She explained that the song required the actors to maintain its pace and energy while simultaneously executing comedy and keeping the flow going. Karisma described Andaz Apna Apna as “always a great learning experience”.

Andaz Apna Apna – A Flop That Became a Cult Classic

The film was declared a box office flop upon its initial release, grossing around ₹8 crore. However, over the years, it gained a massive cult following and is now regarded as one of the best comedy films in Hindi cinema.

The movie’s quirky humour, memorable dialogues, and the chemistry between its lead actors have made it a beloved classic. The behind-the-scenes stories of tension and eventual friendship between the actresses have only added to its legendary status.
