Story Recap and Background
Bon Appétit Your Majesty is a fantasy romance drama. It stars Im Yoon-ah (Yoona) from Girls’ Generation as Yeon Ji-yeong. She is a talented chef trained in French cuisine. At the peak of her career, she wins a major cooking competition in France. She is about to lead a three-Michelin-star restaurant.
Her life changes when she reads an ancient cookbook on a flight. She is transported back in time to the Joseon era. There, she meets King Yi-heon, played by Lee Chae-min. He is known as a tyrant with a harsh temper and a refined palate.
The first two episodes set up her journey. She cooks for the king under life-threatening conditions. Her modern cooking techniques impress him. He spares her life and brings her to the royal palace.
What to Expect in Episodes 3 and 4
The story will intensify in the next two episodes. Yeon Ji-yeong is now the head chef in the royal kitchen. This does not sit well with the existing kitchen staff. They are not happy to take orders from a woman. However, they have no choice but to obey the king’s command.
King Yi-heon gives Ji-yeong a direct order. She must prepare a new dish for him every day. There is a serious condition attached. If he dislikes any meal, she will be put to death. This raises the stakes for her character.
Meanwhile, the king’s concubine, Kang Mok-joo, is growing jealous. She is played by Kang Han-na. She sees the king’s growing interest in the new chef. She begins to scheme against Ji-yeong. In episode 3, she plans to sabotage the kitchen. She plants a snake in a rice container to create danger and chaos.
The preview for episode 3 shows Ji-yeong finding out who is behind the sabotage. This suggests a major confrontation between her and Mok-joo. Additionally, the king’s attitude seems to be changing. He started as distant and mistrustful. Now, he shows signs of warmth towards Ji-yeong.
