The German romance series Maxton Hall – The World Between Us has achieved a major global milestone. Its second season soared to the number one position on Prime Video’s worldwide charts just days after its debut, demonstrating the show’s massive international appeal.

Global Chart Domination

Season 2 of Maxton Hall launched on November 7, 2025, and quickly became the most-watched series on the platform across dozens of key markets. According to industry data, the show reached the number one spot in 42 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Australia, Italy, Spain, and Canada.

The series has held the top position in the U.S. every day since the Sunday following its launch. It also entered the top three most-watched shows in 51 markets globally. This performance marks the best showing for a returning season within three days since the season three debut of the Prime Video hit The Summer I Turned Pretty.

Story of Romance and Class Divide

The series, produced by Fremantle’s UFA, follows the story of Ruby Bell, a scholarship student at the elite Maxton Hall private school, and James Beaufort, a wealthy heir. Their worlds collide when Ruby witnesses a secret involving James’s family. What begins as an attempt to silence her evolves into an unexpected romance, complicated by their different social statuses and family pressures.

The show is based on Mona Kasten’s bestselling novel series “Save You.” The second season continues to explore the complex relationship between Ruby and James while expanding on other characters’ journeys.

Executive producer Ceylan Yildirim explained the season’s focus, stating:

“This season explores the universal longing for connection — not only through Ruby and James but also through Lydia’s search for love with Graham Sutton and the intertwined stories of our ensemble. Some characters will face challenges that push them to their limits, revealing new facets of their personalities.”

Building on Early Success

The massive success of Season 2 builds upon the record-breaking performance of the first season. Since its initial launch in May 2024, Maxton Hall has charted as the number one show on Prime Video in 82 countries and appeared in the top 10 in 112 countries. The show maintained a presence in the Prime Video top 10 every day in at least one country, with over 500 days in the top 10 in its home country of Germany.

The first season achieved the largest first week of global viewership for an international original in Prime Video history, leading to an unusually quick renewal for season two just eight days after its premiere. The show was later renewed for a third season ahead of the season two launch.

Markus Brunnemann, executive producer from UFA Fiction, acknowledged the pressure to meet fan expectations: “We are very much aware of the responsibility that comes with it: the second season was expected worldwide, and we didn’t want to disappoint any of the fans. That’s why we remain true to the core while also sharpening what the series stands for: great emotions, passion, heart and a consistently cinematic look.”

A Standout German Production

The global success of Maxton Hall is particularly notable as a German-language production that has resonated with audiences worldwide. The series stars Harriet Herbig-Matten as Ruby Bell and Damian Hardung as James Beaufort, with direction by Martin Schreier.

The show’s second season finds James attempting to win back Ruby after a painful separation caused by a family tragedy. The official storyline describes Ruby as devastated by James’s actions, wanting to return to her old life before she became part of the elitist world of Maxton Hall, but unable to forget him.

New episodes of Maxton Hall Season 2 are releasing weekly on Prime Video through November 28, 2025.
