Casey Wasserman, the influential chairman of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, is dealing with significant professional and personal challenges. Recently released government files connect him to Ghislaine Maxwell, and separate reports allege a history of relationships with employees. These events have led to calls for his resignation and prompted high-profile clients to leave his talent agency.
New Details from Epstein Document Release
A new batch of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein was released by the U.S. Department of Justice on January 30, 2026. These files include personal emails from 2003 between Casey Wasserman and Ghislaine Maxwell, who is now serving a 20-year prison sentence for sex trafficking.
The emails show a flirtatious exchange. In one message, Wasserman wrote to Maxwell, “I think of you all the timeโฆ So what do I have to do to see you in a tight leather outfit?”. In another, he suggested booking a massage with her. Maxwell responded by offering to practice massage techniques “that apparently drive a man wild”.
Wasserman issued a statement expressing regret. “I deeply regret my correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell which took place over two decades ago, long before her horrific crimes came to light,” he said. He stressed that he “never had a personal or business relationship with Jeffrey Epstein” and was sorry for any association with them.
The connection dates back to a 2002 humanitarian trip to Africa. Wasserman, then 28, joined former President Bill Clinton and others on Epstein’s plane for a Clinton Foundation AIDS research tour. An FBI report based on an interview with a doctor on that flight noted the presence of four young women whose purpose was unclear. The report stated the doctor saw Epstein “grab and rub” one woman’s buttocks. Wasserman has said this trip was the only time he met Epstein and that he witnessed no inappropriate behavior.
Talent Agency Faces Client Exodus Over Allegations
The controversy extends beyond the Epstein files. In early August 2024, the Daily Mail published a report citing 11 anonymous sources. It alleged Wasserman had a pattern of “serial” affairs with junior employees over many years while he was married. The report specifically named former assistant Patricia Feau, who has denied the affair.
The report also focused on Wasserman’s current partner, Jenny Chandler. It stated Chandler was a former flight attendant on his private jet and that their relationship began while he was still married. The tabloid published a screenshot of an alleged 2021 email from Chandler to Wasserman’s then-wife, Laura Ziffren Wasserman, claiming a seven-year affair and describing intimate encounters in the family home. Wasserman dismissed the Daily Mail report, telling CNBC to “consider the source,” and declined further comment.
The combination of these reports has triggered a major reaction from clients of Wasserman’s talent agency. The most significant departure is superstar singer Billie Eilish, who moved her entire business to rival agency WME. Sources told Variety that Eilish and her team were “horrified” to be mentioned in the Daily Mail story and wanted to leave immediately.
This past week, Grammy-winning singer Chappell Roan also announced her departure. “As of today, I am no longer represented by Wasserman,” she wrote on Instagram. “No artist, agent or employee should ever be expected to defend or overlook actions that conflict so deeply with our own moral values”.
They are not alone. Several other musical acts have publicly cut ties or demanded Wasserman step down, including the bands Wednesday, Beach Bunny, Water From Your Eyes, and Sylvan Esso. The client roster list has been removed from the Wasserman agency’s website.
Political Pressure and Olympic Leadership in Question
As chairman of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Wasserman’s position is now under scrutiny. Several Los Angeles political figures have called for him to resign from the Olympic role.
LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath questioned his fitness to lead an event promoting female athletes. “What does that mean when the organization is led by an intimate friend of a convicted human trafficker?” she asked. LA City Council members and a state senator have also demanded he step down.
However, Wasserman appears to retain support from the LA28 board and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). An LA28 spokesperson confirmed the organization would not open an internal investigation over the Daily Mail report. When asked about Wasserman’s role, IOC President Kirsty Coventry stated that the IOC does not get involved in the structure of local organizing committees.

A Complicated Personal and Professional History
Casey Wasserman, 51, is the grandson of Hollywood mogul Lew Wasserman. He built his own company, Wasserman, into a major sports and entertainment agency representing athletes like Megan Rapinoe and musicians like Kendrick Lamar and Coldplay.
His divorce from Laura Ziffren Wasserman was finalized in 2021 after two decades of marriage. He has since been publicly linked with Jenny Chandler, attending events like the 2024 Met Gala with her. A family friend described him as a devoted father and community member who is involved in the Olympics because he cares, but added, “He was a shit husbandโฆ Heโs complicated”.
The released emails with Maxwell are from 2003, when Wasserman had been married for about two years. The Africa trip occurred in 2002. Public allegations against Epstein first surfaced in 2005, with Maxwell’s crimes becoming widely known much later.
