The British actor reportedly won’t return for Season 3 of the hit Paramount+ crime drama following claims of lateness, script fights, and tension with co-stars including Helen Mirren.
Tom Hardy is out of MobLand. The 48-year-old actor, who plays fixer Harry Da Souza in the crime series, has reportedly been fired from the show ahead of a potential third season. Multiple reports confirm that Paramount+ decided not to pick up Hardy’s contract after repeated clashes with producers and problematic behavior on set.
The news comes as a shock to fans who streamed the show heavily. Season 2 finished filming in March 2026 and is expected to release later this year. Hardy will still appear in those episodes. But his time as the lead fixer for the Harrigan crime family is ending.
Why Tom Hardy Was Let Go From MobLand
According to a report by Puck News, Hardy’s firing followed a series of conflicts with executive producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser. Sources say Hardy was frequently late to set, which slowed down production and frustrated the crew. On top of that, he kept trying to rewrite scenes. He asked to give notes on scripts and pushed to change his dialogue.
The actor also made it clear he was unhappy with the direction of the show. Hardy reportedly signed up expecting the story to focus on his character. But as the series grew, it became more of an ensemble piece. With veterans Pierce Brosnan and Dame Helen Mirren getting major screen time, Hardy felt the balance was off.
Things got so tense that Butterworth reportedly threatened to quit the production entirely. Paramount executives had to step in. In the end, they chose to keep the creative team and let Hardy go.
Tensions With Helen Mirren and Other Co-Stars
The set of MobLand was not a happy one. Reports claim that Mirren grew frustrated with Hardy’s attitude and lateness during filming of the first two seasons. Mirren, known for her strict professionalism and discipline, did not appreciate what insiders called Hardy’s “swaggering” behavior.
“Sources claimed Mirren was unhappy with Hardy’s punctuality and on set attitude. One alleged that Hardy sometimes arrived late to filming and attempted to alter dialogue during production.”
Neither Hardy nor Mirren has spoken publicly about the claims. But unnamed crew members told multiple outlets that the tension was visible to everyone working on the show.
This is not the first time Hardy’s behavior has caused problems on a set.
A Long History of On-Set Problems
Hardy has admitted in the past that he is difficult to work with. In a 2015 interview with Esquire, he said: “I have a reputation for being difficult. And I am, I am actually. But I’m not unreasonable.”
The most famous example comes from Mad Max: Fury Road (2015). Hardy clashed badly with co-star Charlize Theron. Director George Miller later described how Hardy had to be “coaxed out of his trailer” every morning while Theron arrived early and stayed ready.
One incident saw Theron sit in her war rig for three hours waiting for Hardy to show up. Camera operator Mark Goellnicht said Hardy was “notorious for never being on time in the morning.”
Theron reportedly asked a female producer to stay with her at all times because she felt “scared” of Hardy’s aggressive behavior. In journalist Kyle Buchanan’s book Blood, Sweat and Chrome, the clash was described as two parents fighting.
Hardy later admitted he was in over his head. He told Buchanan: “What she needed was a better, perhaps more experienced partner in me.”
Even Patrick Stewart recalled Hardy being difficult on the set of Star Trek: Nemesis (2002). Stewart wrote in his memoir that Hardy never said “good morning” or “good night” and stayed in his trailer with his girlfriend when not needed.

What This Means for MobLand Season 3
The show has not been officially renewed for a third season yet. But if it does come back, Hardy will not be part of it. Paramount has decided to move forward without him.
Season 2 is already finished. Fans can expect to see Hardy wrap up his storyline as Harry Da Souza. But the writers will likely need to explain his character’s exit if the show continues.
The cast for Season 2 includes Pierce Brosnan as Conrad Harrigan, Helen Mirren as Maeve Harrigan, Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, and Lara Pulver. New additions like Johnny Flynn and Ophelia Lovibond will also appear.
MobLand premiered on March 30, 2025 on Paramount+. It became the platform’s biggest global series launch, pulling in 2.2 million viewers on its first day. The show was created by Ronan Bennett, with Guy Ritchie directing the first two episodes.
Fans online have mixed feelings. Some defend Hardy, saying his passion for his roles makes him great. Others believe the reports and say no actor is worth slowing down an entire production.
For now, Hardy remains silent on the firing. His representatives have not responded to requests for comment.
