The Korean zombie thriller Colony has broken another major box office record. Director Yeon Sang-ho‘s new film reached 3 million admissions in South Korea on May 30, 2026. That is just ten days after its release on May 21. This makes Colony the fastest movie of 2026 to cross this mark in the country.

The movie now holds the number two spot for highest-grossing Korean film of the year. It has earned $24.84 million so far. The only movie ahead of it is The King’s Warden, which made $108 million.

‘Colony’ Broke Previous Records Set by ‘The King’s Warden’

Colony is beating the numbers set by The King’s Warden by a large margin. The King’s Warden took 14 days to reach 3 million admissions. Colony did it four days faster.

This is not the first record the film has broken. On its opening day, Colony brought in 199,768 viewers. That is the biggest single-day opening for any film in South Korea in 2026. The movie crossed 1 million admissions in just four days. Then it hit 2 million in only five days. Both are 2026 records.

The numbers show strong word-of-mouth. During its first weekend (May 22-24), Colony took 71.85% of the total Korean movie market revenue. It made about $9.4 million from 1.28 million admissions that weekend alone.

What the Movie Is About

Colony is a zombie thriller set inside a sealed building. A mysterious infection breaks out during a conference in Seoul. People start turning into infected beings that change in unpredictable ways. The survivors are trapped inside and have to fight to stay alive.

The Philippines saw strong numbers too. Colony earned PHP 68.5 million in just five days after opening on May 27. That also put it in second place behind Train to Busan on the all-time Korean box office chart.

Hong Kong had its own record. On its opening day (May 28), the movie made HKD 1.4 million. That is the biggest opening day for a Korean film in Hong Kong since Peninsula in 2020.

Singapore reported SGD 715,000 as of May 31. That number already passed Exhuma.

What the Industry Is Saying

The success of Colony has surprised industry experts. The movie launched during a calm period at the box office. But audiences showed up in large numbers from day one.

The film is produced by Wow Point, Smilegate, Midnight Studio and Showbox. Showbox is the same company that distributed The King’s Warden. They now have three of the top four highest-grossing films of 2026 in Korea.

Showbox is also handling international sales. Well Go USA will release the film in North America.

As of June 2, Colony has held the number one spot at the Korean box office for 12 straight days. It has surpassed 3.5 million admissions. Experts expect the film to cross 4 million admissions sometime in the first week of June 2026.
