Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie The Odyssey has started its advance booking in India, and the ticket prices are creating a massive buzz online. On June 8, 2026, bookings opened for IMAX screenings across the country, and fans were shocked to see rates going as high as Rs 3,300 for a single ticket. Despite the high costs, seats are selling out within minutes.
Mumbai and Pune Lead the High Pricing for The Odyssey
The most expensive tickets for The Odyssey are being sold in Mumbai and Pune. At PVR Lower Parel in Mumbai, late-night IMAX show tickets are priced between Rs 1,500 and Rs 3,300. The Rs 3,300 tickets were already sold out on the very first day of bookings.
In Pune, evening shows at Cinepolis Aundh and Inox Megaplex are selling tickets for Rs 1,600 to Rs 3,000. Even the morning shows in Pune cost between Rs 1,400 and Rs 2,600. One X user posted a screenshot and joked, “Today PVR and Cinepolis turned Pune into Monaco #TheOdyssey.”
Delhi Offers the Cheapest IMAX Tickets
While Mumbai and Pune are expensive, viewers in Delhi-NCR have much better options. Inox Paras in Delhi is selling morning IMAX show tickets for as low as Rs 370 to Rs 490. This makes it the cheapest place in India to watch The Odyssey in IMAX.
PVR Priya in Delhi has tickets for Rs 450 to Rs 490, while recliner seats cost Rs 1,400. Other theatres in Noida and Dwarka have prices ranging from Rs 640 to Rs 1,050.
Ticket Prices Vary Across Different Cities
The price difference for The Odyssey across Indian cities is very large. Here is a quick look at the IMAX ticket prices in other major cities:
- Bengaluru: Premium IMAX screenings are priced around Rs 900 to Rs 1,000.
- Kolkata: At Inox South City, evening show tickets cost Rs 680 to Rs 710.
- Chennai: The government has capped IMAX ticket prices at Rs 508.
- Kochi: Cinepolis IMAX tickets are around Rs 750 to Rs 1,000.
- Thane: Cinepolis is charging Rs 950 to Rs 1,600 depending on the show time.
Fans Question the High IMAX Pricing
Many fans are unhappy because most theatres in India will not show The Odyssey in the original IMAX 70mm format. Nolan shot the entire movie with IMAX cameras, but Indian multiplexes mostly have digital IMAX, which is not the same quality.
One X user expressed frustration, saying, “Bookings for #Odyssey are opened & WTF are these pricings??? & Who tf are these ppl who are willing to pay 1800 to a movie?? It’s not even original IMAX format.”
Another fan criticized the theatre chains, writing, “Absolutely shameful price gouging by @PVRCinemas 1300 for Odyssey is absolutely not worth it.” A different user pointed out that tickets at PVR Priya IMAX jumped from Rs 510 to Rs 1,300, yet people are still buying them.
Tickets Are Selling Out Despite the High Cost
Even with all the complaints, tickets for The Odyssey are disappearing very fast. Many premium IMAX shows in Mumbai, Pune, and Bengaluru are already sold out or nearly full. One X user shared, “THE ODYSSEY tickets are selling for a MASSIVE ₹3,200 in India and the MOST UNBELIEVABLE PART is that they are getting SOLD OUT within minutes. UNIMAGINABLE CRAZE FOR NOLAN.”
A Bengaluru-based movie fan also noted that seats at the city’s Koramangala IMAX were “getting booked out in lighting speed.”
India Gets Early Access to Bookings
For the first time, Indian fans are getting to book tickets for a major Nolan film at the same time as the rest of the world. Warner Bros. Discovery India confirmed that India is among the first markets to open advance IMAX bookings, alongside the United States. The bookings opened on June 8, more than a month before the movie’s release on July 17, 2026.
Denzil Dias, Vice President and Managing Director of Warner Bros. Discovery India, said, “For Nolan fans in India, this is a moment worth marking. For the first time, they book their seats alongside the rest of the world, for the first film in history made entirely on IMAX cameras.”
About the Star-Studded Cast of The Odyssey
The Odyssey features one of the biggest star casts ever assembled. Matt Damon plays the lead role of Odysseus, the Greek hero trying to return home after the Trojan War. Tom Holland plays his son Telemachus, and Anne Hathaway plays Penelope, Odysseus’s wife.
The supporting cast includes Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o (playing both Helen of Troy and her sister Clytemnestra), Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, and Mia Goth. The movie has an R rating, making it only the fourth R-rated film in Nolan’s career after Memento, Insomnia, and Oppenheimer.
A Rare Moment for Indian Movie Fans
For many years, Indian audiences had to wait longer than other countries for advance bookings of Hollywood movies. This time, the situation is different. Indian fans can reserve their seats for The Odyssey on the same day as fans in America.
The movie has a reported production budget of $250 million, making it the most expensive film of Nolan’s career. It is also one of the most expensive R-rated movies ever made. The Odyssey will release in cinemas worldwide on July 17, 2026.
