But Grok later corrected itself. The bot clarified that McConnell’s actual image alongside his wife was “not reported as AI-generated”. It appears Grok was confusing McConnell’s real photo with an earlier fake image that showed the senator hooked up to life-support equipment.
Some social media users posted pictures of their own copies of the Washington Post sports section from July 12 to prove that McConnell was indeed holding that day’s edition. A community note on Loomer’s post also confirmed the newspaper was authentic.
