The internet has found its new crush, and his name is Mohit Malik. The television actor, who has spent nearly two decades in the industry, is now getting attention like never before. His role as Birju Lohar in Mirzapur: The Movie has turned him into one of the most discussed actors in the country. Viewers cannot stop talking about his quiet intensity and the tragic love story his character shares with Rasika Dugal’s Beena Bhabhi.
Mirzapur: The Movie released in theaters on September 4, 2026. While the film brought back famous faces like Pankaj Tripathi as Kaleen Bhaiya, Ali Fazal as Guddu, and Divyenndu as Munna, it was the new characters that caught everyone’s eye. Among them, Birju Lohar stood out the most. Ravi Kishan plays Babban Babua Yadav, Sonal Chauhan plays Mumtaz Bibi, and Sushant Singh plays Bhairav Singh Karnawat. But it is Mohit Malik’s Birju who has become the breakout star of the film.
Who Is Birju Lohar and Why Is Everyone Talking About Him?
Birju Lohar is a loyal follower of Babban Yadav. He is a dangerous man who uses a chhitanki, a small but deadly weapon, to take down his enemies. But there is much more to him than his violent side.
The heart of Birju’s story is his complicated past with Beena Bhabhi, played by Rasika Dugal. The two were once lovers. But everything changed when Beena married Kaleen Bhaiya. Years of separation left Birju carrying anger, longing, and a strong desire for revenge. This backstory has made his character deeply emotional and relatable to audiences.
The Scene That Broke the Internet
One particular scene has taken social media by storm. Set to the song Saanson Ki Mala, the sequence shows Beena confronting Birju and shooting him. As she walks away in tears, Birju responds with a quiet smile. The short moment has made a huge impact.
Social media has been flooded with edits and reactions to this scene. Viewers are praising the chemistry between Mohit and Rasika. Many fans have started rooting for this tragic love story hidden inside the larger crime drama.
“Love hi toh hai, lifetime thodey he rehta hai.” – Beena Bhabhi’s heartbreaking line to Birju in the film
The scene is not just about killing. Beena does not pull the trigger because she stopped caring about Birju. She does it because she knows that protecting him could put her own life at risk. When Kaleen’s father connects Birju to her, their past becomes dangerous. Beena chooses survival over love. That is what makes the scene hurt so much.
The most painful part is Birju’s smile. It feels as though Birju understands that Beena is not choosing against him but choosing to save herself. There is hurt in the moment, but also a strange sense of acceptance.
Mohit Malik’s Journey from TV to the Big Screen
For Mohit Malik, Birju is a very different character from the roles that made him a familiar face on television. He was born on January 11, 1983, in Delhi. He has spent almost 20 years in the Hindi television industry.
He first became widely known as Samrat Singh Rathore in Doli Armaano Ki (2013). He later played Sikandar Singh Gill in Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala (2018), a role that brought him a strong television following. His television journey also includes Baatein Kuch Ankahee Si. He also participated in Khatron Ke Khiladi 12, where he finished as the second runner-up. He briefly played Lord Shiva in Gatha Shiv Parivaar Ki – Ganesh Kartikey.
Mohit made his Bollywood debut in 2025 with Azaad, where he played Tez Bahadur opposite Ajay Devgn. While the film did not make a major impact at the box office, it opened another door for the actor.
A Dream Come True for Mohit Malik
Interestingly, Mohit’s connection to the Mirzapur world goes back to 2018. He had auditioned for the series back then.
“It was either for the role of Guddu or Munna, but it did not work out. However, now I am a part of this movie. It was a dream come true to work with such great actors.” – Mohit Malik
He also shared that his preparation for Birju began even before he was officially cast. He grew his beard and started physical training right after his first meeting with director Gurmeet Singh.
“Even before I was cast, when I just had a meeting with Gurmeet and he told me that he’s writing something like this and he would like to test me, that was the day I decided that anyhow I want to be a part of this film.” – Mohit Malik
The actor underwent an intense physical and psychological transformation for the role. He called this one of the toughest challenges of his career.
“That’s, I think, one of the most toughest in my career, till date, I can say that very confidently.” – Mohit Malik
Mohit described Birju as a surprise element for fans.
“This is not in the series, nobody knows anything about him. This will be seen for the first time on screen and you will get to know him better, you will get to know who he is and why he is here.” – Mohit Malik
Mohit Malik’s Real Life vs. On-Screen Romance
While Birju’s love story ends in tragedy, Mohit Malik’s real-life love story is completely different. He has been married to fellow television actress Addite Shirwaikar Malik since 2010. The couple welcomed their son, Ekbir, in 2021. They have kept their family life mostly private while continuing their work in the entertainment world.
