Hanuman Ansh has officially crossed the ₹300 crore mark at the worldwide box office, capping an extraordinary 41-day run that turned a small devotional film into one of Indian cinema’s biggest success stories of 2026. The Vishal Chaturvedi-directed drama, made on a reported budget of just ₹2 crore, has now surpassed the lifetime worldwide earnings of Akshay Kumar‘s Bhooth Bangla and continues to outpace the newer release Mirzapur: The Movie in daily collections.
The Journey From ₹10 Lakh Opening to ₹300 Crore Club
Hanuman Ansh opened on August 7, 2026, with a collection of just ₹10 lakh on its first day. The film’s first two weeks were equally quiet, with total earnings of only ₹1.48 crore net. Industry observers had largely written it off as a non-starter.
Positive word of mouth changed everything. The film began gaining momentum from its third week, and by the fourth week it was collecting over ₹60 crore net weekly in India. On its 41st day, the film earned ₹6 crore net across 9,203 shows, pushing its total India net collection to ₹237.13 crore and its India gross to approximately ₹280 crore.
Overseas, the film added ₹1.75 crore on Day 41, taking its total overseas gross to ₹20.25 crore. Combined with the domestic figures, the worldwide gross now stands at ₹300.25 crore.
Hanuman Ansh Beats Bhooth Bangla, Outpaces Mirzapur
The milestone places Hanuman Ansh ahead of Bhooth Bangla, which finished its worldwide run at approximately ₹292.64 crore. With this, the devotional drama has become Bollywood’s third highest-grossing film of 2026 at the worldwide box office, trailing only Dhurandhar 2 and Border 2 .
The film’s performance against Mirzapur: The Movie has been particularly notable. Despite Mirzapur being a newer release backed by a popular streaming franchise, Hanuman Ansh has consistently out-earned it. On Day 38, the devotional film collected ₹22.50 crore net, compared to Mirzapur‘s ₹13.50 crore on the same day . In the domestic market, Hanuman Ansh currently ranks as the fourth-highest-grossing film of the year, behind Dhurandhar 2, Border 2, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Why the Film Resonated With Audiences
Hanuman Ansh tells the story of Lakshminarayan, a young boy who leaves home after his mother’s death in search of God. His journey across North India eventually leads him to become Neem Karoli Baba, the revered saint whose teachings attracted devotees including Steve Jobs, Julia Roberts, and Virat Kohli.
Shobhinaw Satyaa plays the lead role, supported by Vihaan Shedge, Chandan K Anand, Purnima Tiwari, Anil Rastogi, Gulshan Pandey, and Bhagvandas Patel . The film was written, directed, and produced by Vishal Chaturvedi, who also waived his fees to keep the budget low.
The project was driven by 21-year-old producer Anupriya Nagar, who discovered Neem Karoli Baba while researching technology founders during her economics studies in the UK. She learned that Steve Jobs visited Kainchi Dham in Uttarakhand, which sparked her interest in the saint’s life.
Celebrity Praise and Tax-Free Status
The film has drawn praise from several prominent figures. Malayalam star Prithviraj Sukumaran said at a promotional event:
“The budget of a film does not govern its scope anymore. It’s just the content. If the budget of a film governed the scope, we wouldn’t be talking about Hanuman Ansh today.”
Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar called it “pure cinematic magic” and a “crucial case study for the entire Indian film industry” . Kangana Ranaut described the film as “not a movie, it’s a satsang” .
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that the film will be made tax-free in the state, given its deep connection to Kainchi Dham . The film’s team also met Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow following its success.
Overseas Release and Global Expansion
Hanuman Ansh was released internationally on September 11, 2026, through Hombale Films‘ overseas distribution arm, Hombale Overseas, in collaboration with local partner Phars Film . Hombale Films, known for backing KGF and Kantara, acquired the worldwide distribution rights after the film’s massive domestic success.
In the two weeks since its overseas debut, the film has grossed $2 million, contributing to its global total.
