Soni Razdan Shares Her Excitement for Ramayana

Soni Razdan, who is the mother of Ranbir Kapoor’s wife Alia Bhatt, spoke warmly about the project during a promotional interview for her own film. She described the trailer as something special and said the film looks set to take viewers to new places.

“I think it’s going to be a fantastic journey. An experience and something which we’ve not seen before. So that is, I think, what came to me from the trailer. It looks like it’s going to take us places we haven’t been before. I think for me, that’s the most exciting part of it,” Razdan told PTI.

Anshuman Jha, her co-actor in the slice-of-life film Om Ka Hari, also praised the Ramayana trailer, calling it “spectacular.” He added that India’s history is strong and that bringing the Mahabharata and Ramayana to the screen at such a grand scale is beautiful.

Ranbir Kapoor Plays a Dual Role in the Epic

Ranbir Kapoor leads the cast as Lord Rama and also appears as Lord Parshurama in the same film. He confirmed this dual role earlier in 2026.

Sai Pallavi stars as Goddess Sita, while Yash plays Ravana. The large ensemble cast includes Sunny Deol as Lord Hanuman, Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, Arun Govil as King Dashratha, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Vivek Oberoi, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Kunal Kapoor, Sheeba Chaddha, Indira Krishnan, and Shobana, among others.

A Two-Part Global Epic

The film is directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra’s DNEG and Prime Focus Studios, in association with Yash’s Monster Mind Creations. Sony Pictures is handling global distribution outside India.

Ramayana is being filmed for IMAX and is envisioned as a monumental two-part global epic. The first part is set to release worldwide on November 6, 2026, just before the Diwali weekend. The Indian theatrical release is planned for Diwali, November 8, 2026. The second part is scheduled for Diwali 2027.

Yash clarified in August 2026 that the often-quoted Rs 4,000 crore budget figure covers both parts and includes release and promotional costs for Hollywood markets, not just the first film.

Jai Jai Ram Song and Musical Team

The first song from the film, titled Jai Jai Ram, was released on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi in September 2026. Composed by AR Rahman, the devotional track is sung by Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal, with lyrics by Dr. Kumar Vishwas. Reports say Arijit Singh recorded nearly 200 takes for the song because he was completely immersed in devotion.

Hans Zimmer, the Oscar-winning composer, and AR Rahman have worked together on the film’s score. Zimmer is attached to the background score, marking his first full-scale project in Indian cinema.

Production Progress on Both Parts

Work on the sequel is already well underway. Ranbir Kapoor revealed in August 2026 that Ramayana Part Two is already 50 percent shot, even before the first part hits theatres. He explained that because it is a continuing story, the team has been shooting both parts alongside each other. He also said the epic could easily have been a 10-part movie because of the depth of the story.

The patchwork shoot for Ramayana Part One was reportedly completed in September 2026, with a leaked set image from the production surfacing online.

Trailer and Comic-Con Appearance

The official trailer for Ramayana was released on July 30, 2026, at 4:15 AM IST, during the auspicious Brahma Muhurat. The trailer opens with Yash’s Ravana proclaiming himself the ruler of all three worlds and shows Ranbir Kapoor’s Ram growing up, battling demons, and marrying Sita. It then moves into the 14-year vanvaas, Sita’s abduction, and the stage being set for the epic battle between good and evil.
