A Look Back at Pro Bono Episode 1

The story centers on Kang David, played by Jung Kyung-ho. He is a successful and popular judge who seems to have a perfect career and public image. However, his main goal is to be nominated for the Supreme Court, partly to fulfill a promise to his late mother. His career collapses when he becomes involved in a bribery scandal. A man pretending to be an old friend tricks him into accepting a box filled with cash.

With his reputation ruined, David is forced to resign from his position as a judge. He then gets a job at a large law firm called O&Partners, but he is assigned to their pro bono team, which handles free legal cases for the public. This is a major fall for someone used to high-profile corporate cases. He joins a team that includes Park Gi-ppeum, played by So Joo-yeon.

What Happened in Pro Bono Episode 2?

Episode 2 shows Kang David struggling with his new role on the pro bono team. He is unhappy and looks down on the small cases his new team handles. His first case involves a dispute over a dog named Byeol. An elderly couple adopted the dog after it was abandoned, but the original owner now wants it back. David finds the case beneath him but decides to use it to his advantage.

He makes a deal with Oh Jung-in, the firm’s director who hired him. David promises to significantly improve the team’s success rate if she will later nominate him for a prestigious justice candidate position. To win the dog case, David uses clever and sometimes ruthless methods. He discovers the dog’s original owner used a shock collar, which is a form of animal abuse.

A key moment in the episode is the courtroom appearance of veteran actor Sung Dong-il as Judge Choi Ho-jip. David is uncomfortable to see him presiding over the case. Despite challenges, David finds a way to pressure the opposing party by revealing their connection to a powerful political figure, ultimately winning the case for the elderly couple.

The production team stated, “In Episode 2, the tense courtroom chemistry between actors Jung Kyung Ho and Sung Dong Il will make the drama even more entertaining.”

The episode ends with a twist. Oh Jung-in is seen contacting the same con artist who initially framed David, suggesting a deeper, ongoing plot.
