The wait is finally over for Peaky Blinders fans. The movie The Immortal Man arrived on Netflix on March 20, 2026, bringing back Cillian Murphy as the iconic Tommy Shelby. Set during World War II, the film picks up years after the series ended, showing Tommy coming out of a quiet life in the countryside to face trouble in Birmingham once again.
But one major question has been on everyone’s mind since the movie started streaming. Where is Tom Hardy’s Alfie Solomons? The fan-favorite Jewish gangster from Camden, who had a complicated and unforgettable relationship with Tommy throughout the series, is nowhere to be found in the new film. His absence has left many viewers disappointed and searching for answers.
Why Tom Hardy’s Alfie Solomons Does Not Appear in The Immortal Man
Alfie Solomons first appeared in season 2 of Peaky Blinders and quickly became one of the most memorable characters. His tense, unpredictable partnership with Tommy Shelby was a highlight of the show. Although it seemed like Alfie met his end in season 4 when Tommy shot him in the face on Margate beach, the character survived. He made brief returns in season 5 and season 6, with the series finale showing Alfie alive in London with his new wife, Edna.
For the film, however, Alfie is completely absent. He is not mentioned, and there is no cameo appearance. Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, has explained that the story they wanted to tell simply did not include Alfie. Knight stated that the film is about Tommy’s journey toward redemption for something he did to a family member, and the focus remained on that specific path.
From a story perspective, Alfie’s absence does make some sense. At the end of the series, Alfie had given control of Camden to Tommy in exchange for territory in Boston. He had also been dealing with cancer. With the film set during World War II, traveling back across the Atlantic would have been difficult. Tommy himself told Alfie that his “opera” was complete, suggesting his story had reached a natural ending.
The Scrapped Twist That Would Have Brought Alfie Back
Even though Alfie does not appear in the finished film, it turns out Steven Knight seriously considered bringing him back in a surprising way. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Knight shared an idea he had that would have revealed Alfie was actually a ghost all along.
“I had an idea, which I haven’t really spoken about,” Knight explained. He noted that ever since Alfie was shot on the beach in season four, Tommy and Alfie were only ever seen together alone. This detail made Knight think about a possible twist.
“I thought, maybe [Alfie] appears, and we realise he’s been dead all that time,” Knight said. “Now, I nearly did that, and I didn’t do it, but that was a thought.”
The idea would have followed the same pattern as Tommy’s visions of his late wife Grace throughout the series. It would have meant that Alfie never actually survived the shooting, and all their meetings afterward were in Tommy’s mind. Knight ultimately decided not to go with this idea, leaving Alfie’s survival as part of the official story.
Tom Hardy’s busy work schedule may have also played a role in the decision. Since Peaky Blinders ended, Hardy has been busy filming the Paramount+ crime drama MobLand.
Fan Reactions to Alfie’s Absence in the New Movie
The response from viewers has been strong, with many expressing their disappointment online. Social media and discussion forums have been filled with reactions since the movie started streaming on Netflix.
One viewer called the lack of Alfie “unacceptable,” while another said they were “completely disappointed” that there was no scene with Alfie.
“Not even having a cameo of Alfie is unacceptable. I cannot abide this movie,” a fan wrote on Reddit.
Others felt the timing of the film’s setting made Alfie’s absence even more noticeable. With World War II and the events affecting Jewish communities across Europe, some fans thought including Alfie would have added depth to the story.
“With WWII and the holocaust happening, it would have been perfect to include Alfie to defeat whatever Nazi threat was looming,” one viewer argued.
Another fan mentioned that without Alfie and other familiar faces, the movie felt “strangely disconnected from the Peaky Blinders world.”
What Other Characters Return in The Immortal Man
While Tom Hardy’s Alfie Solomons is missing, the film does bring back several other familiar faces. Sophie Rundle returns as Ada Shelby, Tommy’s sharp-witted sister. Stephen Graham is back as Hayden Stagg, the union representative who appeared in season 6. Ned Dennehy returns as Charlie Strong, the Shelbys’ trusted ally, and Packy Lee is back as Johnny Dogs.
New cast members include Barry Keoghan playing Duke Shelby, Tommy’s illegitimate son who is now grown up and leading the gang. Rebecca Ferguson also joins the cast as a new character named Kaulo Chirklo.

Is There Hope for Alfie Solomons to Return in Future Peaky Blinders Projects
For fans still hoping to see Alfie Solomons again, there may be a small chance. Steven Knight has confirmed that the Peaky Blinders story is not over. More episodes are planned for Netflix and the BBC, with Knight teasing that some characters from The Immortal Man will appear in what comes next.
Knight has kept details quiet, saying he is “under strict instructions not to talk about it except to say that it’s happening.” While there is no guarantee that Alfie will be part of future projects, the door has not been completely closed.
