Peacock just gave good news to everyone who loved watching Keke Palmer solve neighborhood secrets. The streaming service announced on April 13, 2026 that The ‘Burbs will return for a second season. The show only came out two months ago on February 8, 2026, but it has already become one of Peacock’s biggest hits.
The series is a new version of the 1989 cult classic movie starring Tom Hanks. It mixes comedy with mystery. The first season had 8 episodes that all dropped on the same day right after the Super Bowl. That big launch day helped the show get the highest Day 1 numbers ever for any Peacock original show.
Show Numbers That Surprised Everyone
The numbers for The ‘Burbs are very impressive. People have watched the show for more than 1.7 billion minutes on Peacock. That equals about 28.3 million hours of viewing time. The show also stayed in Nielsen’s U.S. Originals Top 10 for four weeks in a row. It reached the number 2 spot during that time.
This is a big deal because Nielsen ranks shows by total minutes watched. Comedy shows with shorter episodes usually have a harder time making these lists. But The ‘Burbs still managed to stay near the top for a full month.
The show’s success did not stop in the United States. Peacock sold the series to more than 100 countries around the world.
Lisa Katz, who runs scripted content for NBC and Peacock, talked about the renewal:
“We’re so thrilled that audiences loved season one of ‘The ‘Burbs,’ and are going to get to spend more time in Hinkley Hills with Keke and the rest of this incredible cast. A huge congratulations to all of the writers, producers and crew who updated the beloved original film and made something funny, warm and highly contemporary.”
What The ‘Burbs Season 1 Is About
The show follows a young couple played by Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall. They move back to the husband’s old childhood home in a neighborhood called Hinkley Hills. They do not really want to live there, but they have no other choice.
Things get strange when a new neighbor moves in across the street. The neighbor brings up old secrets that people on the block tried to hide for years. Soon the couple finds out that their quiet little street has deadly dangers they never expected.
The first season ended with a big cliffhanger. One main character’s life was left hanging, and the show suggested a much larger conspiracy was happening. Season 2 will continue that story.
The Cast and Creative Team
The show has a strong group of actors. Along with Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall, the cast includes Julia Duffy, Paula Pell, Mark Proksch (known from What We Do in the Shadows), and Kapil Talwalkar.
Celeste Hughey created the show. She wrote and helped produce the first season. Rachel Shukert also wrote and produced. Keke Palmer did not just star in the show. She also worked as an executive producer.
Big names in Hollywood also helped produce the series. Seth MacFarlane (the creator of Family Guy) and his team at Fuzzy Door were executive producers. Brian Grazer and Imagine Entertainment also helped produce the show.
The studio behind The ‘Burbs is UCP, which is part of Universal Studio Group.
What Critics Said About Season 1
The show got good reviews from major newspapers and entertainment websites. The New York Times called The ‘Burbs “funny and ultimately heartwarming.” Variety said the show is “brilliantly written” and called it “an entertaining blend of genres that keeps viewers guessing until the very end.”
The series takes the original 1989 movie and updates it for today’s audiences. The movie had a similar setup where a man named Ray Peterson (played by Tom Hanks) suspects his strange new neighbors of being killers. The TV show keeps that basic idea but adds more mystery and character depth.
