Lisa Kudrow’s character tries to save her career while dealing with a shocking personal revelation from her husband in the latest HBO episode.
The seventh episode of The Comeback Season 3 aired on May 3, 2026, bringing more trouble for Valerie Cherish. After getting cancelled in episode 6 for hiding the use of AI on her new show “How’s That?!”, Valerie now has to face angry writers, upset crew members, and a shocking confession from her husband Mark.
The episode, titled “Valerie Chases the Truth,” picks up right after the events of last week. Valerie wakes up to find that Mark got a large tattoo on his back while at Burning Man. The tattoo reads “ANYWHERE ELSE.”
Valerie Tries to Find Who Leaked the AI Secret
Valerie wakes up to find Jane waiting outside her home. Jane, who left the show in episode 6 after refusing to sign an NDA, tells Valerie she was not the person who leaked the AI news to the public. Valerie believes her.
Jane asks to come back and film Valerie with her old camera. She says she regrets leaving and wants to support Valerie during this hard time. Valerie agrees to let her return.
Billy arrives with a new security guard named James. The group believes Paulie G. might be the one who told everyone about the AI writing. They go to a cafe where Paulie G. often spends time.
Angry Writers Confront Valerie at the Cafe
When Valerie and Billy arrive at the cafe, they find it full of upset writers. One writer walks up to Valerie and tells her that because of AI taking jobs, he had to move his children from private schools to public schools.
The writer then throws coffee on both Valerie and Billy. The pair are forced to leave the cafe right away.
Outside, they run into Paulie G. Valerie asks him directly if he leaked the story. Paulie says no. He tells Valerie that he actually sent her a supportive text message. He even thanks her because working briefly on her show reminded him how much he loves being a writer. He has now taken a pay cut to work on another writer’s project.
The Crew Turns Against Valerie on Set
Back on the set of “How’s That?!”, Valerie faces more problems. The crew is angry because they were the last to know about the AI writing. Evan gets bullied again by other crew members.
Zeke, who usually laughs at everything, tells others plainly that Valerie lied to them about the AI. Bev, the crew member trying to keep things moving, tells Valerie, “Val, I love you, but you lied. You lied by omission.”
The camera operator Jack refuses to do his job. Bev has to step in and operate the camera herself. She tells the crew that everyone has bills to pay and families to feed, so sometimes people have to do work they do not like.
Juna Returns to Support Valerie
Valerie steps outside for air and runs into Juna, played by Malin Akerman. Juna reminds Valerie how she treated her well when Juna first started working in the business. Juna tells Valerie that she is a good person who does not treat people badly.
Juna says to Valerie, “To me, you’re ‘it’.” This line makes Valerie break down and cry. Juna also points out that the experienced crew on “How’s That?!” must have known all along there were no writers on set.

Mark Reveals His Dark Secret During Live Show
Valerie and Mark go to film his reality show “Finance Dudes.” Mark seems very uncomfortable during the filming and keeps making mistakes. Valerie tries to help him stay calm.
A caller asks Mark live on air if he got “MeToo’d” in the past. Mark becomes very upset and leaves the room. Valerie follows him.
In a private moment, Mark tells Valerie the truth. He slept with multiple women who worked for him. These women may have felt they could not say no because he was their boss. Mark says he hates himself for acting that way.
“I hate myself for acting like that. I was one of the guys, and before Me Too, I never even questioned it.” – Mark
Valerie tells Mark that he has changed as a person. Mark decides to quit “Finance Dudes” on the spot. Valerie leaves for her own press event for “How’s That?!”
Valerie Learns the Truth About Who Leaked the Story
Valerie shows up at the press event ready to face the media. She prepared a short statement about AI being a “valuable new tool” that helps writers.
After finishing with the press, Valerie meets Ridley from NuNet in person for the first time. Ridley tells her that NuNet itself leaked the AI story. The company did it to create buzz and attention for the show just days before its premiere.
Valerie is shocked to learn her own employer caused all her problems. She then sees Billy wearing very flashy, expensive clothes. Billy tells Valerie, “I don’t want to be an actor, I want to be a star.”
